Gary Glitter could face death by firing squad after he was accused of having sex with a girl aged just 12, Vietnamese police have said.
Glitter allegedly had sex with a 12-year-old girl Two girls, aged 12 and 18, told police they had sex with the former singer - real name Paul Francis Gadd - at his rented home in the southern resort of Vung Tau in Vietnam.
Under Vietnamese law, sexual contact with a minor carries varying degrees of penalties, depending on the charge.
"Obscene acts with a child can lead to up to 12 years in prison while child rape carries the maximum penalty of death before a firing squad," a Vietnamese police officer said.
"Having sex with a 12-year-old girl, regardless of whether he had her consent, is still considered child rape under Vietnamese law".
The 61-year-old former singer was arrested two days ago at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City as he tried to flee the country.
He left his rented home in Vung Tau a week ago amid allegations about his relationships with two teenage girls.
Glitter has been taken back to Vung Tau for further investigation by the police.
A Foreign Office spokeswoman said: "We are aware of the arrest of a British national and consular support is being provided."
Glitter was convicted in Britain in 1999 of possessing child pornography and served half of a four-month jail sentence before being released.
You mean, they have an excuse.
Singapore, maybe?
That was after the prison wardens caught on to the issue that the prisoners have a code. Then they started devoting separate wings away from general population for the pedophiles.
That is why we have such a problem today is that the most dangerous are living through prison life and now back out on the street.
Oh, well, since I have never gone nor ever will go to an NBA game, I guess I will just have to muddle on in ignorance (not unfamiliar territory for me :').
Thanks for the info.
Yeay! I now have heard the song, thanks to a link that someone put up that let me download the midi. And, yes, now that I have heard it realize that I have heard it in the past.
I know you were really worried about my missing out. ;-)
Before drugs..
After (or during) drugs..
I always get a kick out of that Glen Cambell shot..Growing up in the `60`s I always saw him as the cleancut cowboy, sort of like the Donnie and Marie of country, and next thing you know BLAAAH! LOL! I mean look at that picture, not even Keith Richards himself looked that trashed, not even Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and here comes the clean cut country boy Glen Cambell out of nowhere looking like he came from the bowels of hell. Hey, and if you ever read the police report of when he was arrested, they said the whole time he wouldn`t stop singing "Rhinestone cowboy" even when they threw him in jail! LOL!
Only on FR would we see a lineup of pictures as scary as that one :-).
