One thing that has almost been forgotten in the last two years is the sanctions during the 1990's, and how Saddam was manipulating world opinion saying that the sanctions were killing thousands of Iraqi children every month. We were hearing figures that the sanctions had killed 200,000 - 1,000,000 Iraqis, and the world was believing it. So Saddam was wearing down the sanctions, was wearing down the inspectors, was wearing down the UN, and probably by now the sanctions would have been dropped, the inspections would have ended, and he'd be ramping up the WMD programs one more time. So even during the Clinton years, the left was saying we were killing hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. And even during the Clinton years, we were in a virtual state of war with Iraq - thousands of air and missile attacks were launched.
