The Sagebrush Rebellion of the 1970s lasted less than a decade as a potent political force. But the sentiment that sparked the backlash over the management of federally owned lands in the West has never really gone away. And nowhere does the movement's heart beat more loudly today than in southern Utah.
Specifically, in Kane County.
But such actions are, he adds, "as much a political statement as a legal matter. It reflects federal-local tensions that have been part of the system from the beginning in the parts of the West where there is a heavy federal presence." Anti-government feelings in Kane County only intensified when President Clinton created the monument at the height of his 1996 re-election campaign without consulting state or county officials.

Utah Ping
It's okay for illegals to trash border states, even driving bulldozers, the Mexican army taking pot shots at the border patrol, littering the desert, defiling same, drug dealers, coyotes, and who knows what all. But poor Utah residents can't even drive on private land. Alice in Wonderland time.
I sympathise greatly with you. My family's favorite picnic spot is slated for closure through the creation of a Forest Service "Urban Wildlife Preserve" for foot and bicycle access only. Once again, elitist super-minorities serve their own selfish, narrow interests in the face of the public. This, by the way, is the face of the new Democratic Party, which doesn't even bother with the pretence of representing the people.

Typical, some communist dhimmicrat from the Midwest sticking his nose into someone else's business.
Maybe we can get some help from Utah for getting rid of Dick 'Turban' Durbin.
There's a court case out of New York where eco-fascists shut down roads into nature reserves. Activists sued the eco-fascist bureaucrats under the American With Disabilities Act.
The judge ruled that disabled Americans may not be denied access to public lands, so the roads were re-opened.
This is one action you might take.
The other is opening the roads under RS4657, which I imagine you already tried. How did it turn out?
Oops...make that R.S. 2477.
We visited that area ~*PING*~

I love it! They just had to get guns into the article somehow. For most of the sheeple it sends the message that those "locals" are a bunch of militia nuts. Next thing you know, the BLM will have a SWAT team in place, just like the NPS did in Alaska.
Yes I am. Thanks for the PING.
Here in Santa Cruz county, our county officials are letting many roads fall into complete disrepair. Then they "decommission" them. Its just one of their many incredibly horrible plans that they are using to harm land owners, taxpayers and automobile users in this county.
The Grand Staircase fiasco is a real sore spot with my family. We are from northern Utah but feel at home and spend alot of time among the red rocks. Groups such as SUWA and the Sierra club are made up of a bunch of elitist snobs from the coasts. They need to keep their noses OUT of Utah and let us handle our own territory.
We have alot of friends in Escalante who tell us the tourist business has really increased since Clinton "protected" the area and they are worried that the increase is going to bring problems for the environment it never would have had if it was left in obscurity.
Too bad the Clinton gang never learned the Law of Unintended Consequences.
More trouble in southern Utah ping...
The Sagebrush Rebellion is near and dear to my heart. My mother was county clerk for Garfield country through much of the 70's.
I've given up on locals having any say in what happens in their towns, communities or States....it just seems like fighting a losing battle. The Kaiparowitz Plateau was my very first politically charged battle, then came the Burr Trail road. The people in Southern Utah do not control their own destinies.
p.s. Aloha from Hawaii....spending Thanksgiving with my son and his family.
