Armed standoff at Tacoma Mall (WA)
Eyewitness ^ | 11/20/05 | Ramius

Posted on 11/20/2005 12:41:22 PM PST by Ramius

Two separate reports, one from my Dad and one from a friend... both at Tacoma Mall. Not being allowed inside, due to "someone inside with a semiautomatic shooting in the mall".

Large number of police on the scene, sealing the exits. Not letting anyone in or out.

Will post a source as soon as I have one.

Every teenager thinks their issues are really important. I mean... Mine were, weren't they?

Funny, I can't remember exactly what the issues were... :~D

looks like my gang theory is blown.

Of the few gang shootings I've been to at the mall, those shit birds seem to target those from rival sets

"Shall Issue" means that concealed pistol, known alternately/elswhere as concealed weapon and concealed carry, licenses "Shall" be issued by the govt. to individuals not precluded by law from owning or possessing firearms if they apply.

This means if any 21 y.o. citizen of the U.S. and resident of WA, or even a foreign national and non-resident if they jump through more hoops, applies for a Concealed Pistol License (CPL) in WA and they are not precluded from owning or possessing because of a criminal history, the state SHALL/must issue them a license.

Some states have MAY issue which means you must show cause (read your Sheriff likes you or is in favor of concealed carry) for needing a CPL before the authority will grant you one.

Here in WA and in many other states it is a right that you have as opposed to a privledge.

I hope that clears things up.

Go to Packing.org for a more comprehensive understanding of the law and which states are Shall/May/don't even think about it jurisdictions.

Washington is a "shall issue" state... however, the management apparently doesn't allow carrying on mall property. Gee, too bad they failed to communicate this to the gunman....

I saw that from other sources, none of which I can share here...but yes, the media did a good job trying to "cluster foxtrot" the scene

Your local government should charge them with Obstruction. Wouldn't go anywhere but it would generate publicity and might cause the public to shame the media's action.

[Might wanna rethink that knee-jerk racial response there.]

Here's his name, finally, Dominick Sergio Maldonado. Sergio Maldonado? Hmmmmmm, Hispanic? That's what cultivates the knee jerk reaction, when the media seems to withhold things like names for a period of time.

{AP}
TACOMA, Wash. Nov 21, 2005 — A man accused of a shooting spree at a crowded shopping mall told authorities to "just follow the screams" when he called them shortly before opening fire with a pair of assault rifles, according to court documents released Monday.

Plans for making bombs and poison gas were later found after a search of the man's car and bedroom, prosecutors said. Dominick Sergio Maldonado, 20, was ordered held on $2 million bail after pleading innocent

Yes. CCW permits are state-issued, by the city or county... on a shall-issue basis.

There is also an Interfering charge on the books but as you said it wouldn't go anywhere. Muni prosecutors would probably NCF to the circular file because they wouldn't want bad press

A nutcase is shooting up the mall and the police lock the doors not letting anyone in or out?! Glad I live in Israel. Shooters are bleeding out inside of two minutes over here.

That report was, I think, premature... many people ran out.
