American troops are developing a hate-hate relation with journalists.
The basic problem is that soldiers and marines in Iraq have access, usually via the Internet, to what the mass media is saying about what they think is happening in Iraq.
These news reports, all too often, do not reflect what the troops experience.
It gets uglier when the troops realize that reporters are spending most of their time in the Green Zone or some well guarded hotel, leaving it to local Iraqi stringers to collect information and photos for the reporters stories.
Relations are a bit better with the few embedded journalists who still travel with the troops out in field. But even the embeds are often mistrusted and disliked, because some of them are blatantly out for dirt, not an accurate story.
To the troops, the war is being won.
The troops cannot understand why that is not news, and why journalists always seem to be looking for a negative angle.
To the average G.I., the attitude is, what are these reporters looking for? They are looking for a story, and bad news is a story. Good news is not. As a result of this clash of cultures, reporters are increasingly seen as a potentially dangerous enemy.
For the troops, this is already accepted as true for many Arab journalists. Some of those have been arrested for hostile activity, or later revealed as al Qaeda agents.
European journalists are seen as particularly clueless,

BUMP!
You are correct.
Over 70 percent of Americans do not trust the media either.
That is why their paid circulation numbers are way down and there are mass layoff across the country at most newspaper, tv, media outlets.
Their stock prices are way down, too.
IMO, it simply boils down to one thing. An irrational burning, visceral hatred for George W Bush.
Yes, they can not believe that Bush was re-elected with even better numbers.
This elite also hates most other Americans, Christmas, Santa Claus, God, ...
Just remember, when these creeps lose their jobs, they're going to apply for something else, and they're STILL going to be anti-American subversives. Keep your eyes peeled and don't let them get entrenched in a job near you.
"...this internet thing is gonna catch on someday."
It's liberals that go to journalism schools.
No way will they shed their roots, regardless of consumers, or in their case reader preferences.
Besides they're bad with numbers therefore readership or advertising revenue don't matter.
As for journalism school, I think that if you have to pay $20,000 a year to learn who, what, when, where, and why, you are not getting your money's worth.
Agreed. And why do they hate him?
1. It's all they've got.
2. By comparison, GWB shows up Clinton, the liberal icon, to be the worthless failure of a POTUS in every way that he was. RATS do not like that.
3. This may be the most important -- a successful Bush presidency will keep the liberals OUT OF POWER for the forseeable future. That terrifies them.
Maybe America will finally be free when the soldiers start to kill the journalists.
This is a good reason why we've got to stay in touch with the troops - letters, e-mails, cards to Walter Reed, etc - and let them know we support them AND their mission, honor their courage and sacrifice, and thank them (and their predecessors) every day for our freedoms. "If you can read this, thank a teacher; if you can read it in English, thank a soldier."
Why did the Muslim cross the road?
To do a suicide bombing on the other side.
The real poll on the lying news papers is the fall of their stock in the last year.
NYT = NY Slimes, WPO = Washington Post, TRB = Chicago Tribune and LA Slimes.
Out of hatred for George Bush the liberal media convinced Al Qaida that George Bush was a weak leader and that America was a disunited country. The liberal media caused this war in the first place and they are determined to see that America looses it.
