At least one Arab television media outlet reported that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the head of the al-Qaida in Iraq, was killed in Iraq on Sunday afternoon when eight terrorists blew themselves up in the in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
The unconfirmed report claimed that the explosions occurred after coalition forces surrounded the house in which al-Zarqawi was hiding.
WASHINGTON, Nov 20 (Reuters) - U.S. authorities are looking into whether al Qaeda in Iraq leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in a gunfight in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, a U.S. official said on Sunday, but a White House spokesman said that was "highly unlikely."

Well I QUALIFIED it:) It was CNN, after all!
I don't know if it's plausible- but IF he's dead- they may want to keep it quiet to smoke out some others- or just sit back and to see what they do next.
Nevermind..that was a Tinfoil Thought...
I hope the ones that do know find out pretty soon.
CNN is reporting this just now and said 'senior officials' were hopeful and that positive ID's were being made. Sorry if someone has already reported this, been watching football all day and just heard it! Please God, let this be it!!
I think it'll depend on whose DNA they're using for an exemplar. Some stuff takes longer than others I think.
I think the first instinct is to always downplay it... CYA ya know
Bring me his head! I want a picture of us.
:O)
P
Check out Post #761. The timing of this announcement, along with that odd story this morning about al-Qaeda "apologizing" for the bombings in Annan, Jordan last week, seems to suggest that a lot of things have happened behind the scenes in the last few days.
He has an NFL quality arm, but no legs.
Good. That contradicts what Fox just reported (that it was unlikely he was killed.) As Dog wrote, we'll wait for military confirmation.
1951 July 20: Hussein's grand father, Abdullah is murdered by a Palestinian, and the father of Hussein becomes new king in Jordan.
(snip)

1971: The Palestinian forces are expelled from Jordan. 1973 October: Hussein does not participate in the Arab war against Israel, partly after advice from the USA. 1978 June 15: Marries Lisa Najeeb Halaby, who takes the name Queen Noor.
September: Hussein does not join the peace process between Israel and Egypt. At the same period, his relations with the Soviet Union are strengthened on the cost of his affiliation with the USA.
1985: Hussein reaches an agreement with PLO on a future confederation of a Palestinian state and Jordan.
1988 July: Hussein cedes all Jordanian claims to Israeli-occupied West Bank, to the PLO.
1989 November: Free elections are held, where the Islamists get 32 out of 80 seats in the Parliament.
1990: With the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait, Hussein works hard to find a solution to the crisis, without going to war against Iraq.
1993 November: Elections are held, leaving the Islamists with less seats than 4 years earlier.
1994 October 26: Hussein signs a peace agreement with Israel's prime minister Yitzhak Rabin at the border between the two countries.
1996 January: In conjunction with the funeral of Yitzhak Rabin, Hussein makes his first official visit to Israel.
(snip)
1999 January: Hussein appoints his oldest son, Abdullah, as crown prince, and dismisses his brother Hassan. This comes at the same time as he is put under intense medical care for cancer.
February 5: King Hussein is declared clinically dead, but is kept alive artificially. His son Abdullah is sworn in as new ruler.
February 7: King Hussein dies, and is followed by his oldest son, Abdullah.

BUT - He was released under an Jordanian amnesty program.
Guess Clinton isn't the only one who let terrorists go free.
I'll gladly wait a few days for confirmation if it is him.
It's quite possible the White House doesn't know yet either.
Well, it could be CNN trying to get hopes up, so that they can dash them and hurt the war effort and Bush even more (rolling eyes)
Make sense. Let's just hope whatever the case, this guy is dead.
The Dems were right. Global warming is getting to be a serious problem --- for Al Queda!
Those SUVs will turn you into a toasted marshmallow.
Either that or perhaps the WH told Fox they didn't think we got him to lower expectations.
They didn't listen!
