Both you and Miss Marple are very brilliant freepers and have brought up some great points here tonight and I am already feeling inadequate for not calling my congresscritters more and have absolutely no excuse for not calling the talk shows more. You both are right.

Maybe the concern expressed by everyone here today will translate into some action by the administration. Heaven knows we have the momentum!!

I really came on today in hopes of celebrating a huge victory we had Friday night. I don't know what happened but it's not being mentioned too much.

When I say require, I would think that you would understand that when 50-60 members of Congress get together with charts and soundbites and a well planned press conference, even the leftist media will air it.

It's called C-SPAN.

Interestingly enough, I heard Err America recently. It seems that the libs watch obsessively. The host was talking about how all but 3 callers out of hundreds was identifed as a regular C-SPAN viewer. They were a little less intense on NPR.

So we know they're watching it in good numbers. But it makes no dent in their mindset.

If we give up, and don't try to counter the lies, the results are not going to be good. When you own the WH, House and Senate, there is a way to get around the press.

Take it TO them instead of answering them. Then don't give a press conference where you take questions.

Just make a prime time news statement like:

"I heard that Rep. Reid said the intelligence was manipulated. How can he say that since he admits he did not even view the intelligence report prepared for him specifically at the request of Congressional Democrats".

"I heard that Senator so-and so said that Iraq had no connection to Al Qaeda before the war. That Senator knows full well that even former President Clinton's justice department made mention of the fact that Al Qaeda agreed not to attack Iraq in exchange for training in weapons development. That Senator knows full well that members of Iraq's Fedayeen military met with OBL on such and such a date". etc.

And you have the press nailed to a tee on the questions they repeatedly ask. Ack. I hate them.

Only you missed the obvious point which is at the heart of everything I have said today. The President IS countering them. Has been for months. Does anyone act as his echo chamber? NO. Instead they spend ALL their time freaking out and whining. Part of that is the "Bushbots" fault too. I tuned them out. I should of been posting every single speech and transcript so the Freepers could seen them all. Unfortunately I assumed being Freepers they had all the same access and were reading all the same things I did. My error. I guess I should of realized when all we hear from the the Conservative Pundits and their Freeper Echo chamber is "why isn't Bush fighting back" that the President's message is NOT getting out.

My whole point today is HE IS fighting. Unfortunately people who SHOULD know better are not HELPING him (i.e. the Senate, a good chunk of the "Conservative" punditry etc) Instead they all spend their time whining "Why doesn't Bush do this, Why doesn't Bush do that. How about this. How about instead of just ECHOING the Dinosaur media people start challenging it's lies and talking points? How about more people start acting as Bush's echo chamber? Instead they keep acting as the Dinosaur Medias echo chamber. For example, there were a number of major votes last week that show just how weak the Democrats are in the House. But do we hear that? Nope. All the Sturm and Drang on Free Republic is about the vote the Repbs LOST. So do we ever hear what is going RIGHT? No all we hear is this panic and hand wringing about "My God why are the Republicans not fighting back harder". They ARE. They could USE SOME HELP. Frankly some of us who spends a lot of time pestering Congress critters, writing letters and making a nuisance of ourselves with "journalists" on behalf of the Conservative Movement are sick of hearing how we are NOT doing enough.

My whole point today is I am sick of this constant hand wringing and wailing demanding OTHER people do something to "Save us". I got a better idea. Let us save us instead. Last time I checked, it was Government of the people, BY THE PEOPLE, for the people.

It is sad, but what you say is true. The reporters are not nice, decent,Church going trustworthy People. When a Dem is in Office they do everything they can to coverup his inadequacies, but when a Republican is in the White House they do everything they can to undermine anything he does. I would not trust any of those whitehouse reporters to warn anyone that there was a suicide Bomber in the room.

Oh, Friday night was FANTASTIC! There's no doubt about it.

However, giving themselves a raise and letting the Patriot Act expire was not their finest hour. And Ollie has been on a few shows and what he's saying has a lot of us concerned. More concerned than we already were after talking with our families.

But that's doom and gloom and I guess everyone has had enough of that. So let's understand that we have work to do. Activism can help, imo, to embarrass congressmen into working harder.

"And what about Zarqawi"

On the car radio they said his family has disowned him and that in Bedoin tradition that means they will try to kill him as an honor killing.

Then Fox reported that Pentagon officials are trying to confirm if he was killed in a bombing.

Either way...one more bad guy dead or a dead man walking. This pleases me.

The lies have been allowed to stand until last week. Nearly every political pundit has been puzzled by this.

Does this mean the president hasn't been busy and trying to gather support for the war? Of course not. And no one has suggested otherwise.

But it's time conservatives play offense vs. defense. Take to the airwaves and counter the leftist lies. That's all we want.

It's defeatist, imo, to suggest that the liberal filter is such that when we have the majority that we can't do it.

The news Media picks and chooses what they air and a Republican Speaking about something like that would be totally ignored. I believe the best way to get the good coverage is to go to areas like Philadelphia that have a three State News Media and a lot of smaller Communities that love to have the President on their Six O'clock News. Use the Bully Pulpit away from the seriously biased Washington DC media Area, and visit a lot more Bases where the Soldiers Love their President and he loves them.

However, giving themselves a raise and letting the Patriot Act expire was not their finest hour.

Patriot will only expire if the House insists on it. The House produced a majority that wants all the most objectionable provisions left in and to extend it ten years (essentially a permanent destruction of civil rights and privacy). The Senate was unanimous in a four year renewal with the most odious provisions stripped out. When the conference settled on the House version but limited it to seven years, 3 Dims and 3 Pugs in the Senate wrote a letter warning they would do an old-fashioned filibuster until the end of the season. Leahy told Specter he would oppose and that brought Specter to pull the conference.

I favor the Senate version. However, Patriot is bad enough that I won't cry if it isn't renewed at all. We had plenty of intel pre-9/11 to stop the hijackers. We just didn't act. Just as we know right now about the danger on our southern border from terrorists and won't close it. And giving up our rights won't help that situation either.

Still, I think we'll see the House come around rather than let their recklessness lead to no Patriot at all. Many of us have been hitting the phones with our senators to insist they hold their ground and uphold the greater responsibilities they have to the Constitution.

We'll see movement on the Senate version in the next week. I think Specter and the others will hold firm on this.

Good post. Took a course in critical thinking didn't you?

Critical thinking does NOT mean being knee jerk critical of your own side. I know that is how it is taught it is NOT an intellectually honest approach. That is the whole problem with the "Critical Thinkers" you continually confuse being critical with thinking. You assume that by being constantly critical of your own side you are "being an objective thinker"

Um NO. The very lack of balance produced by the self styled "Critical thinkers", their the habit of absolutism in their conclusions demonstrates they are NOT thinking. In any thought process should look like a bell curve some points negative, some positive the bulk towards the neutral middle. When you see someone who's completely off to one side, it indicates a LACK of thought or a suppression of thought to conform to an emotion based opinion.

Funny thing is. The people who pride themselves on their Critical thinking" invariable fall on one of the extreme sides of a bell curve. For example, your and Peaches posts today all fell on the negative side. It was only with extreme reluctance some grudging positives could be dragged kicking and screaming out of you two. That does not display critical thought, it DOES display suppression of thought to conform to a preconceived notion.

Look I am sorry for all of you who lived thur Vietnam. This is not Vietnam redux OK? Vietnam did not start with 3000 dead American Civilians. This war did. Most Americans have not forgotten that. That is why Friday we got a 430-3 vote against a Cut and Run agenda. The Vietnam Generation need to move past that period not stay fixated on it.

I guess if a pragmatic freeper were to pick the best parts out of what you MNJ, Miss Marple and others have had to say tonight we could light a fire under our congress critters some more.
From my standpoint i would like to see everyone here work together a little better instead of all this back biting and all.
One of the things that always kills us in congress is that the rats vote in unison all the time. We seldom get together that much. Eveyone has their valid points but unless we unify it's tougher to beat an opposition that has the capability to lie their way through any agenda they have with a willing press at their side.

One other thing I think you may have underestimated Peach is that just because we as conservatives or Republicans make statements in a speech or whatever t.v appearance or what ever the venue there is no guarantee that the message will not be spun later by everyone on the left.

They seldom play fair.

Good night all. Gotta run

Actually, no. Just have an educational background heavily weighted towards math and science, plus a professional career in sales and marketing (Fortune 500 level). There is a time for shuckin' and jivin', and there is a time for getting to the bottom line. /grin
