SAMSUN, Turkey -- The leaders of Russia, Turkey and Italy pledged on Thursday to boost oil and gas cooperation and bring Europe greater energy security after inaugurating a natural gas pipeline under the Black Sea.
The inauguration of the Blue Stream line also capped a big improvement in economic ties between Russia and NATO member Turkey as they set aside historic rivalries in favor of trade.
President Vladimir Putin raised the possibility of a second pipeline carrying Russian natural gas and oil to Turkey, while Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said his country aimed to become a key energy hub for Europe and the Middle East.

Well--My view of Putin regime is definitely negative.
However, as for pipeline I wonder if this will help both Russia and E. Europe to diversify the energy supplies and oil transit routes. E. Europe can buy the Russian Oil from Turkey. Whatever we may think about Putin regime, this pipeline could be a good news because it may end energy entanglement of Russia and E. Europe. I could be wrong though and overlook some important details.

Seriously speaking, this pipeline maybe beneficial in a long term. E. Europe may start buying Russian oil from Turkey instead of from Russia directly.
If E. Europe and Russia could disentangle from each other energetically, it will benefit everybody.
I was a big fan of Gospodin Putin, but some of the moves he's made in recent times have definitely moved things backward a bit, (actually he's done great harm to the progression of free markets) so now I would give him maybe a 65% approval rating. I'm sure this is not news to you, I absolutely agree with your observations...
I believe his personal ratings are now below 50%, however the majority of Russians don't see who could challenge Putin. I might dig more info on the ratings.
