WASHINGTON The House on Friday overwhelmingly rejected calls for an immediate troop withdrawal from Iraq, a vote engineered by Republicans that was intended to fail. Democrats derided the vote as a political stunt.
"Our troops have become the enemy. We need to change direction in Iraq," said Rep. John Murtha of Pennsylvania, a Democratic hawk whose call a day earlier for pulling out troops sparked a nasty, personal debate over the war.
The House voted 403-3 to reject a nonbinding resolution offered by the GOP calling for the military to pull out of Iraq.
"We want to make sure that we support our troops that are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. We will not retreat," Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., said as the Republican leadership pushed the issue to a vote over the protest of Democrats.

But, that's the whole point of it all. Exposing the Democrats for playing politics with the lives of our military. They are more interested in politics than supporting America.
I bet both of them will be running for the Midol this morning.
Calling for this vote was a really smart Repub move.
Whoever came up with the idea deserves recognition.

Save it to your hard drive for posterity.
JD Hayworth brought the idea up in conference and it became the event of the day.
Hannity and O'Reilly are going to claim credit for it because they talked about it earlier, and Hugh Hewitt is probably one of the first to suggest it.
There were also 6 "nuanced" (read scared out of their little panties) Rats who were afraid to vote anything else but "present".
22 couldn't even get up the energy to vote at all.
Hey, TomGuy. What are your thoughts this morning after the vote?
I think J.D. is going to go further than the House of Representatives and I'll be glad to see it.
For the record, Beauprez is in CO for the annual state central committee meeting. There's no way he could have changed his plans at the last minute to return to DC.
SHE'S GREAT!!!
Agreed. JD has been good on many other issues as well and he's not afraid to speak out.
Many are suggesting that's what prompted this sudden little burst into the spotlight--that he can now claim any charges against him are politically motivated by the evil vindictive ... blah blah blah.
The interesting thing is that this was reported on by the LA Slimes (usually a dressed up DNC talking points fax). I'm not sure what's up with that, but they also mentioned that the scam involved a Pelosi. One of her sons IIRC.
O.K> thanks, I kind of figured that some of those politician had something they had planned they couldn't get out of.
They need to take and get and talk to the media to explain that fast. Or look bad.
We enjoyed the whole thing. Well, until we had to quit for the night just before the final vote. Still, it was great to see an organized response to the attacks we've been seeing.
Like you, at one point I was expecting to see a "cage match" when the Democrats started coming unglued.
Wife picked up on something else. The supporting Dems sitting behind whoever was speaking all looked like death warmed over in their negativity.
I agree... it was refreshing to see.
I think what Tony really meant was that DNC spin shows like MTP, This Week & FTN want congenial stiffs like Hatch, Roberts, Lugar, Warner... etc.
Wexler and McKinney. Why am I not surprised. Those two would vote to scede sovereignty to any rag-head in an Afghan cave.
As for the other cowards, who voted present or not voted at all, they are even worse.
What a masterful job the republican leadership did on this. What a way to shut the pie-holes of all the leftist traitors spouting in the news lately.
I read that too. And yes, I would guess they will claim anything questioned on Murtha is politically motivated. Standard proceedure, IMHO.
