The timing of an investigation now may not bode well for our side. The dems are trying to convince the nation that if you disagree with the Admin. policy they will go after you.

Must be a difficult thing to do considering so far there is no one under investigation except other Republicans.

The reality is if you disagree with the dems or the media, they will go after you.

And that is bad in what way? Turn the spotlight on yourself and you'd better have damned lily white record. Especially when you're a congressman. If he broke the law, let the pieces fall where they may.

That is WHY Murtha is doing this now...to use that defense.

"... if you disagree with the Admin. policy they will go after you."

All the more reason your disagreement with the Administration should stem from heartfelt conviction instead of from the seeking of political advantage.

Then what do the Republicans have to lose ? They are already accused of politically motivated paybacks, so there is no incentive to restrain from doing it. That just simply illustrates the stupidity of the Democrats crying wolf when there was not wolf ! Now that a wolf may actually show up, who will care.

Shouldn't be a problem as there are a number of principals in this case....Pelosi...lol, once her name is involved they'll forget all about Murtha, except as just one of many who get caught up in a sweep, kinda like when CEO's had to start taking responsibility for their 10Ks. Besides, after being quoted as saying that "Our soldiers have become the enemy"

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051119/ap_on_go_co/congress_iraq

the left side of the aisle will happily sacrifice him while trying to save their minority leader. Go at this the opposite of Fritz, put out lots of names right away, make 'em all household names with connections to the graft, rather than one poor sap years down the road.

So we should not fight back with all we have??

We should let the attacks on DeLay, UNFOUNDED ATTACKS, remain as legitimate, but questions about Murtha are not good?

That sounds like DemocRAT blackmail. Why should Reps let them set the agenda. After all, we are in the majority. I say go forward with the ethics investigation.

It is time to quit allowing the dems to rule our actions.

They will holler and scream no matter what we do.

I am sick to death of hearing everyone say - we can't do this because the dems will yell, the dems will counter with this.

Of course they will holler - that is what they do.

This is war here in our government and we do not cower when the other side does not like our actions.

The dems are trying to convince the nation that if you disagree with the Admin. policy they will go after you.

The problem is that it has never been true. All the Administration has to say is this is an internal investigation and we don't have anything to do with it. I'll be there are any number of dems who, if they see we are actually fighting back, are going to think twice about what they say. I have no doubt that plenty of them are vulnerable on many fronts.

"The dems are trying to convince the nation that if you disagree with the Admin. policy they will go after you."

And? So what?

If this is a bogus charge I certainly would not want it to be pursued, but if it is serious then who cares whether the Dems get their feathers ruffled? What are they going to do, call the President a liar?

The dems have had no problem going after the administration. I say hit them and don't stop.

I agree with several previous posters. The timing is bad and this will not benefit the Republicans. However it does appear the investigation had been proposed sometime prior (June?)to Murtha's withdrawal statements. Still, the press will make this about the House vote and display him as a martyr.
