GOP Lawmakers Float Ethics Probe of Murtha
Roll Call ^ | Friday, Nov. 18 | John Bresnahan

Posted on 11/18/2005 6:23:51 PM PST by pittsburgh gop guy

Republican lawmakers say that ties between Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) and his brother's lobbying firm, KSA Consulting, may warrant investigation by the House ethics committee...

According to a June 13 article in The Los Angeles Times, the fiscal 2005 defense appropriations bill included more than $20 million in funding for at least 10 companies for whom KSA lobbied. Carmen Scialabba, a longtime Murtha aide, works at KSA as well.

KSA directly lobbied Murtha's office on behalf of seven companies, and a Murtha aide told a defense contractor that it should retain KSA to represent it, according to the LA Times.

In early 2004, Murtha reportedly leaned on U.S. Navy officials to sign a contract to transfer the Hunters Point Shipyard to the city of San Francisco, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. A company called Lennar Inc. had right to the land, and Laurence Pelosi, nephew to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), was an executive with the firm at that time.

Murtha also inserted earmarks in defense bills that steered millions of dollars in federal research funds toward companies owned by children of fellow Pennsylvania Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D).

I served for 30 years. If I lie/cheat/steal am I immune to investigation? Of course not, I'm a registered Republican.

Murtha climbed into bed with Pelosi. If he's now covered in fleas, he can't blame anyone but himself.

BTW I'm a proud Pennsylvania Republican

Murtha is a Marine and has served his country

Who gives a royal flipping crap! Since when does military service give you cart blaunche to break laws and rules? Sen Joe McCarthy was a war hero. His name is a cuss word to Liberals! What heroics you did in the war does not in anyway excuse you from being an @sshole today. Just ask John Kerry and John McCain!

"Republicans in Pennsylvania? When did this happen?"

LOL!

This anomaly occurs when Republicans drive across or fly over the state lines......last year I was the Republican in New York for 4 days.

But what do I know as I live in California:)

Spot on!!

I remember Hannity initially treating that Sheehan creature with that same almost "kid glovish" deference as though she had made the sacrifice her son made.

The gloves need to be off wrt these people when they cross the lines and stop the nice-guy pandering. It's good to see Pres Bush starting to do just that.

he doesn't come across as a crazy Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid. He comes across as a respectable retired Marine

I think you are right on - definitely not a crazy Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid. He has been visiting vets at Walter Reed and I think he is breaking down under grief. Attack the RATS not this one man - he just said the right words to set the ball in motion. We have all been waiting for the Repubs to grow a spine and stand up to the RATS, now they have done it. We have the vote on record and a lot of good sound bites for 2006 campaign. I wish folks would not take out after the Vet Murtha, but rather the looney left that has hijacked his party (like Zell said).

Have to agree with you there - listening to left radio the other day and they were arguing that bum Rummy was never in the service just like the draft dodger Cheney and Viet Nam evader Bush. Of course they will NEVER EVER mention the REAL DRAFT DODGET WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON who ran off to old merry England to attend Oxford while the "common folks" went to Viet Nam.

Kerry was in the military too, you know.

No, I didn't know that. Was he in Vietnam, by any chance? :->

They need to investigate the poor man's mental health status. He makes no sense.

He has the VietNam Syndrome. Build up the military forever but when it comes to using it, lose your nerve. Use emotional appeals from mothers and wives as excuses to keep your army away from the enemy. He may have been a Marine 40 years ago but he's a nerve case today.

And I just sat here tonight and listened to Murtha ranting and railing that our troops don't have enough armaments, supplies and weapons.

This is exactly a display of the VietNam Syndrome. For the Jack Murthas of thw world, who have lost their nerve, there will NEVER be enough armaments, supplies, and weapons to risk actually engaging in the lethal hazard of combat. He is no doubt sincere about his "feeeelings" but sincerity is a very minor and overrated virtue and feeeelings are highly over valued by crapped out geezers with anxiety disorders.

I agree with several previous posters. The timing is bad and this will not benefit the Republicans. However it does appear the investigation had been proposed sometime prior (June?)to Murtha's withdrawal statements. Still, the press will make this about the House vote and display him as a martyr.
