CAPITOL HILL (AP) -- There's been heated debate on the House floor regarding a GOP effort to force a vote on Congressman John Murtha's call for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq.
Democrats charge the effort is a cheap political stunt and a personal attack.
Instead of offering Murtha's resolution, Republicans plan to reject a similarly worded resolution offered by one of their own to show support for US troops.
Democrats say that's a "counterfeit" resolution, charging it guts Murtha's thoughtful approach to the situation.
The fiery, emotional debate climaxed when Ohio Congresswoman Jean Schmidt, who is the lowest in seniority, recounted a message a Marine colonel wanted to send to Murtha.
She said he told her that "cowards cut and run, Marines never do."
Democrats booed and shouted her down, bringing the House to a standstill.
PING
Listening to them say they do not agree but try and avoid the vote ... speaks volumes.
Schmidt has spirit for sure ....
So vote against it.

HAHA! Her remarks were stricken from the congressional record, but they are definitely in the public record now.
Barrett (R-SC) gave an excellent address as well.
now that's what I'm talkin' about...
Yes, they said it was because she was new that she errored but it is like going to court once you ring the bell whether sticken or not it was said and heard and in her case will be on many news wires in the next few hours.
The search did not come up with much yet.
"She said he told her that "cowards cut and run, Marines never do.""
Hmm... she's got more balls than most of the men in the Hill. And, she probably just got herself targeted by the left, and the darling of the Right.
Schmidt for POTUS!
I hope that indeed her words are carried by many news paper's.
It's about bloody time.
Pelosi has actually called for the Dems to vote against it for precisely that reason... but really, to give the Dems cover and avoid having the vote actually pinned on them. Essentially, "I voted for it before I voted against it" on a much larger scale.
Yeah, they censured her but hey, that cat is out of the bag. The media never lets a great statement die and that was one great statement.
For those following the latest on the Hill.
PING
If they vote against it, then they have to STFU with all this bad-mouthing they're doing out on the street.
I want to see their corpses left for the carrion and their names blotted out forever.
why did they put up one of the own resolutions rather than Murtha's? I'm glad that the republicans are actually showing some spunk...but not sure the procedure on this
It's time for all gutless, spineless, French-whine-swilling surrender monkeys to stand up and be counted.
Wow, how the wind changes the mood yesterday Pelosi has said that Murtha was entitled to his own words as if to stand far away for political reason's guess she is again changing her tune.
The MSM will probably report that FAR RIGHT-WING RADICAL REPUBLICAN Jean Schmidt was asked to apologize for breaking House rules, but they won't give the details.
