The only thing I want from the government is freedom and fairly well-paved roads.

Well said! ... (But don't move to Pittsburgh.)

IT always has been the aim of the Pentagon to withdraw as soon as possible.

I wouldn't call this resolution a "transparent spoof." This was an attempt to get people like Murtha and Pelosi to stop their obvious use of the Iraq war to advance their shallow political self-interest. This was an effort to debate the full ramifications of a quick military withdrawal from Iraq and push House members to stop the political talk and make a strategic decision about the real world. While it was largely a symbolic vote, I think the GOP accomplished these objectives last night.

He's bleeding from every pore and I've only been toying with him, because I'm just so tickled over tonight's vote and that lovely speech by the Rep from Texas.

Cyber, hubby and I were watching the show on the bedroom television. We both cracked up and woke up one of the babies. Just couldn't help ourselves. :)

A democracy like ours tolerated being attacked for over ten years by Al Queda--and our lack of response was viewed as cowardice. No matter what Murtha's reasons are to call for withdrawal, the only "translation" that the terrorists will receive is that the US is too cowardly to maintain the fight and we are all "peace moms" like Cindy Sheehan and peace daddys like Dennis Kucinich (sp?)who beg that their poor little boys not have to be sent to fight or die for a cause greater than themselves.

Caving in to this "peace thru appeasement" crowd is far too dangerous: think how many MILLIONS of lives could have been spared if the great "peacemaker" Neville Chamberlain had stood up to Hitler when "der Furher" invaded Czechloslovakia. Hitler could have then been defeated--but because of the political lack of will to stand up and face reality, the entire world suffered a tragedy that Churchill called the "unnecessary war"--because it could have SO EASILY been averted if the Allies had done more than just wring their hands about Hitler.

Tonight the Pubbies did not "go wobbly" and forced the Dems to play a losing hand. I am proud of them, no matter what the Dems do or say in the next few days. It was time to call the Dems' bluff and it felt good to watch it.

The vote to not stop the war will send a good message to the troops--and that is what really makes me feel good. Murtha will be no hero to them, no matter how much he says he cares about them. He is waving a white flag over their heads while they are still in the heat of battle--and that is despicable! Now the Congress has said "No Way" to Murtha--and that is the message that will reverberate past the beltway to around the world. HOOAH!!!

"No sane person would have voted for such a transparent spoof."

You really meant no sane demoncat would actually go on record to be held accountable for the treasonous bilge they spew didn't you?

>>"You oppose the withdrawal of troops from Iraq. You must want them to stay indefinitely." <<

That's like saying that because someone won't own an electric car they hate the environment. Hyperbole and rhetoric mein freund.

Indeed. 'Rats and trolls like St. Chuckles are always trying to insert a ridiculous strawman argument into a debate - because they always lose against the real ones.

Yeah, Sam Johnson delivered an empassioned speech for sure. It was one of my favorite moments of the evening.

Hey, St.Chuck, it's just politics. The Democrats have been doing a lot of jumping up and down about the war in the hope of diverting attention from the nightmare (for THEM) unfolding before their very eyes - - a roaring economy, virtually non-existant unemployment, low oil prices (I got my gas for $2.09 today!), a rising stock market.... etc.

All the Republicans did was respond in such a way as to (hopefully) bring the whole war debate to a head, cut to the chase, let it all hang out.... You know, get it behind us so we can "move on" to other important matters.

Someone on the Arizona state board posted a message that this vote was J.D. Hayworth's idea. I don't know if that's accurate information.

A while ago, the Dims pulled a "stunt" in the Senate, and that was OK. Now it was the turn of the pubblies in the House to show that two can play that game. But of course, it was not a stunt. There were a lot of angry people on the floor tonight, because we are dealing with a serious matter.
