An exchange with Margaret Warner on last night's "NewsHour With Jim Lehrer," though, suggests that Murtha has simply taken leave of reality:
Warner: But may I ask you, sir, if you believe--[the president] says--for whatever reason, Iraq has become the center of terrorism - that if the U.S. appears to retreat in the face of that, that it will be a blow to the American fight against radical Islamic terrorism? What do you say to that?
Murtha: Well, I say that the fight against Americans began with Abu Ghraib. It began with the invasion of Iraq. That's when terrorism started. It didn't start when there was criticism of this administration. This administration doesn't want to listen to any ideas.
So according to Murtha, "terrorism started" either in March 2003 (with the "invasion of Iraq") or in May 2004 (when the Abu Ghraib miniscandal came to light). One wonders where he was in, say, September 2001. One wonders, too, how a political party can keep a straight face while putting him forward as a spokesman on national security.
This Simmons guy has a pair!
He started condeming Iraq 3 months after we entered Iraq.
wolf, HELP. just got home and am watching the disgraceful Congress but am not clear on what's going on. on another thread, someone said, they're voting or have voted on 'whether or not to vote on immediate withdrawal of troops'. is this correct? thanks.

Hey.............. What did I do? Or are you addressing the libs, etc in general? Hope so because I support this war with my heart and my soul and I also support our President. And.....I won't turn on him like some have just because the polls say his approval is down. That's when he needs "us" the most. I have taught my 5 yr old and 3 yr old girls to walk up to those in uniform and thank them for our freedom.

Murtha is saying we are lying about our "progress".
Murtha is now going to read from "one soldier". But earlier when Jean read a letter from a soldier, and the democrats forced her to withdraw the SOLDIER'S words.
Now Murtha was pretending to read from a soldier, but it is actually his WIFE. I wonder if her husband is happy with her writing to Murtha.
Remember, this is a report from a WIFE who has to see her husband injured for life.
BTW, I still say Murtha is sincere, but sincerely wrong.

So what are the odds that the AP will mention 7 times in an article that Rob Simmons(R) is a Vietnam vet, like they did with Murtha(D)?
Simmons just made a great point about cutting and running in Viet Nam--and the slaughter that ensued.
