I heard him on Hewitt's how last night, he was steamed!

I'm steam too. Last night I watched interview after interview with one politician or another and I couldn't possibly count the lies and false statements spewed forth...and in almost no case was any follow up questions were ever asked, or the wrong ones were. There was no challenging of "facts", there was no challenging of consequences...if I want to see idiots make speech after speech I'll go to the democrat convention...interviewers should...I don't know...perhaps INTERVIEW their subjects. At one of the biggest crossroads in our nation our media has completely and utterly failed us through their lack of ability to systematically explore and examine what our so called leaders are saying....GRRRR....I'm with Lileks...brick up the Senate...and then tell Congress if they don't do a good job they're next.

Thanks for the ping! While it wasn't funny (except for his scathing description of the despicable so-called Senators), it was a marvelous rant of what needed to be said!

Bravo for Lileks, and long may he post in good health!

I don't recall if anyone else has mentioned this, but I thought of a near-perfect way of getting a large amount of money out of politics:

(drum roll, please)

Do away with senatorial elections and go back to appointment of U.S. senators by state legislators.

Is this the same James Lileks that got driven from the Boston Herald after mistaking his wife for a Dura-Flame log and tossing her in the fire plave?

What are you talking about? He's never lived in Boston, for decades he's written for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and he is happily married to his one and only wife. You might want to do more research before alleging attempted murder on an innocent party.

Don't be so hard on Solson, Dog. Would you invite me to a public party knowing I'd humiliate you using your own words? Of course not. :-)

We'll revert to some sort of military leadership, where only people who have served and picked up a gun are able to go and serve in the Senate, and have a say over these matters.

Robert Heinlein, call your office.

I remember describing STARSHIP TROOPERS to someone when it first came out, and his response was, "That's like turning the government over to the American Legion."

Sounds good to me.

"I've had it with a lot of them. And if this wasn't serious, I'd be sitting back laughing. But it's not something to laugh about. What we have here is every single cliche that the left has been hammering into a sheet of tin since the beginning, made true. 1. Quagmire. We actually have a quagmire now, except it's a political quagmire of will. 2. We have the brual Afghan winter, except it's manifesting itself here as a brain freeze in the Senate,...What is astonishing about this is that the people who are responsible, and who have their hands on the lever of power, have chosen this moment in history to reveal themselves as being incapable of understanding A) what happened, B) what is happening now, and C) what will happen if they continue on their course of action. In other words, they misunderstand the past, the present, and the future. It's astonishing."

This is the best analysis I've read in a long time! I've had it with them too.

OMG!

Mistaking Lileks for Leykis.

Anybody who's read Lileks and listened to Leykis knows exactly how funny that is.

No kidding. :)

It wouldn't surprise me if it's happened more than once, though. The names are somewhat similar.

We'll revert to some sort of military leadership, where only people who have served and picked up a gun are able to go and serve in the Senate, and have a say over these matters. I wonder... will we see a coup because the military can no longer trust the pols to run the country?

I think it is inevitable. It's not that I welcome it, but you have at least a third of the Senate that could legitimately be brought up on charges of treason.

There was a book written about five years ago that fictionalized about an imcompetent Democrat president getting us into a stupid war in the middle east and botching up so badly that the military in essence fired HER and took control of the government.

If you want Peace, prepare for War. I'm afraid that if Bush does not take up the gauntlet and be willing to kick butt and take names he will do a grave diservice to our country by encouraging the corrupt leadership of the Democratic party to assume control of the Republic.

Ever read Starship Troopers? If no, you should do so.

If you respond "no, but I saw the movie", I'm going to nominate you for a DU membership.
