CENTAF releases airpower summary report

11/16/2005 - SOUTHWEST ASIA (AFPN) -- U.S. Central Command Air Forces officials released today’s airpower summary report.

Coalition aircraft flew 72 close-air support and armed reconnaissance sorties Nov. 15 for Operation Iraqi Freedom. They included support to coalition troops, infrastructure protection, reconstruction activities and operations to deter and disrupt terrorist activities. Coalition aircraft also supported Iraqi and coalition ground forces operations to create a secure environment for ongoing Transitional National Assembly meetings.

Air Force F-15s flew an air strike in the vicinity of Karabilah successfully firing a precision-guided bomb against a building used by anti-Iraqi forces.

An Air Force MQ-1 Predator and Navy F/A-18 Hornets flew close-air support for coalition troops in contact with anti-Iraqi forces in the vicinity of Fallujah.

In addition, nine Air Force and Navy intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Iraq. Also, Royal Air Force fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role with their electro-optical and infrared sensors.

In Afghanistan, coalition aircraft flew 25 close-air support and armed reconnaissance sorties in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. They included support to coalition and Afghan troops, reconstruction activities and the conduct of presence route patrols.

An Air Force Predator and a B-52 Stratofortress provided close-air support to coalition forces in contact with insurgents in the vicinity of Asadabad. The bomber successfully fired precision-guided bombs against a cave used by insurgents.

Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt IIs and a Predator provided close-air support to coalition forces in contact with insurgents in the vicinities of Asadabad, Ghazni and Kabul.

In addition, five Air Force ISR aircraft flew missions in support of operations in Afghanistan. Also, RAF fighter aircraft flew in a non-traditional ISR role.

Air Force C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster IIIs provided intra-theater heavy airlift support, helping sustain operations throughout Afghanistan, Iraq and the Horn of Africa. They flew more than 155 airlift sorties, delivered 385 tons of cargo and transported 3,400 passengers.

Coalition C-130 crews from Australia, Canada and the South Korea flew in support of either OIF or OEF.

On Nov. 14, Air Force and RAF tankers flew 36 sorties and off-loaded nearly 2.3 million pounds of fuel.

B-52 and Close Air Support, are two words you'd think of as being mutually exclusive. but with todays smart munitions, there it is... Outstanding BUFF workout!!!
