Once the floodgates opened for films about the tragedy of 9/11, it was only a matter of time before Adam Sandler took his crack at the subject.

According to Variety, Sandler and Don Cheadle are circling "Reign O'er Me," a script from writer-director Mike Binder ("The Upside of Anger"). The drama has drawn interest from Sony and could be made next year at a budget of under $20 million if the pieces all fall together.

If the production can gel in time, "Reign" would probably be lined up as the third major studio offering to tackle 9/11. Oliver Stone is currently in production on a Paramount-based World Trade Center project starring Nicolas Cage, while Paul Greengrass is making "Flight 93" at Universal.

Just what we need, an Oliver Stone conspiracy epic showing how an evil president forced 19 middle-eastern waifs into carrying out his sinister plan to let his friends take over the world's oil fields.

Hmmm. Binder is also a leftist, but he's a good director, unlike that unwatchable lunatic Stone.

Sandler is a political pragmatist and a steadfast defender of Israel.

Cheadle, as opposed to Cage, is probably the most gifted actor in Hollywood today.

How about if we just show a loop of the on the spot photography from that day. I think we can bring it in for well under $20 mill.

I agree. He's highly overrated.

The Sandler movie and the one about Flight 93 look promising.

I'm sure we can already guess the plot of the Stone movie- Bush knew. The Joos knew and didn't go to work that day, it's all about Irael and oil, yadda, yadda, yadda.... won't have to waste any money on that film.

Cheadle is fantastic. Prospective actors should be required to watch his 5-10 minutes of screentime as Mouse in Devil With A Blue Dress.

A miniature tour de force.

Betcha if you saw him in Happy Gilmore you'd change your mind.  Shades of Orson Wells in Citizne Kane that role was.

Then what on earth does playing the Robin Willliams role mean?

I assume they mean that Cheadle will play the kind of role Williams played in Good Will Hunting.

I doubt Cheadle will sink in skill to anything remotely approaching a Robin Williams performance.

I like Adam Sandler, and I really like Don Cheadle. Anyone see his portrayal of Sammy Davis Jr. in Rat Pack? Man, it was astounding. The guy played Dean Martin was dead-on as well.

"Never liked him (Adam Sandler) on "Saturday Night Live" and I haven't changed my opinion since.

- If Sandler is involved, there will have to be a scene where a Dalmatian, owned by one of the firemen, meets Sandler as he descends one of the twin tower evacuation stairwells and goes for his crotch.

Sandler in a 9-11 movie...hmmm....

"So, Cajun Man, what American was most responsible for 9-11?"

"Clin-Tone!"

"Really, why do you say that?"

"The Su-Done!"

"That's right. The Sudan offered to give us Bin Laden. So how would you have handled 9-11?"

"Inva-Jone!"

"But what if invaded and they fought back with guerilla warfare?"

"Vaporiza-shone!"

"That would make many people upset. Who should they complain to?"

"United Na-shone!"

"Interesting. If you were president, how would you handle the United Nations?"

"Deporta-shone!"

Oh, I don't know... I'm a Morgan Freeman fan myself. Out of all the various roles I've seen him play, I've always completely believed he was the person he was portraying whether it was the POTUS, a detective, God etc...

Having said that- Cheadle is quite good.

Freeman has no range.

Whether he plays a cop, a prisoner, a deity or a chauffeur his character is always the same: an unutterably wise yet slightly flawed mentor wistfully bemused by the antics of his charges.

Happy Gilmore is, quite simply, the best movie ever made.
