[history]
Dear Robert J. Samuelson, Our records show that you haven't yet registered for the benefits of AARP membership, even though you are fully eligible. . . . I look forward to your joining us.
Among AARP's 36 million members, there must be many decent people who benefit from the discounts offered on car rentals, hotel rooms and airline tickets. But I won't be joining, because AARP has become America's most dangerous lobby. If left unchecked, its agenda will plunder our children and grandchildren. Massive outlays for the elderly threaten huge tax increases and other government spending. Both may weaken the economy and the social fabric. No thanks.

Maybe I'm just dense, but I still cannot firgure out why it should be someone else's childrens' and grandchildrens' burden to support me when I'm an old fart.

Picture a scene where some old guy comes to your door and says that he has a few medical bills that he'd like you to help take care of. Is there anyone that wouldn't tell such a person to take a hike.
Well, then, if you won't help voluntarily, let's make some laws that make you help, all supported whole-heartedly by AARP and their ilk. To make matters worse, it doesn't even matter that the person asking for help might be better able to pay his bills than you.
This nonsense has got to stop.

That's such a powerful idea: requiring recipients to directly ask the providers for entitlement money. It would save a lot of government bureaucracy expense, as well.

There's no discrimination because their prices are not lower...They're higher!.
I assume you're talking about health coverage. (Shhh, don't tell them, they think they're in a warm, soft blankie.)
I was talking about all the discounts they get goods and services for showing their AARP card. 10% off at many, many places, especially eateries.

I found that they also have a fairly large lobby agenda in other areas. Gun control in particular.
My parents got out of it.

Those same places that give 10% off for showing your AARP card give 10% off to any senior with or without an AARP card...All you have to do is ask.

Yeah, well... that particular happy event is still a few years off, and I still get membership solicitations from them.

Lol...
I feel discriminated against when I spend cash. I have to pay higher prices to subsidize those who use credit cards.

Thank goodness the National Council of Senior Citizens, which was D/union conceived (Kennedy/CIO), highly government funded and which thoroughly backed HillaryCare, is now defunct.

Yeah buddy, they're even more dangerous than the terrorists. Could this article be any more over the top?
To: TheConservativeBanker
There is a conservative alternative: USANext, formerly the United Seniors Association is a pro-American, right thinking group which advocates free enterprise solutions. Their website is at www.usanext.org
That's good information to have - thanks for posting it!
