Things get dungy in Limbaugh-Harkin AFR clash
Media Life Magazine ^ | 11/16/2005

Posted on 11/16/2005 7:30:39 AM PST by GeneD

A public spat between Rush Limbaugh and Democratic Iowa Senator Tom Harkin has now hit both the Senate floor and the airwaves. The bout of nastiness began on Nov. 7 when Harkin presented a defense bill calling for fair and balanced programming on the Armed Forces Radio. While Limbaugh’s conservative show is broadcast on the network, listeners are not offered a liberal alternative, says Harkin. He’d like to see a liberal talk show like Ed Schultz or Al Franken added. Limbaugh was not pleased, so on his show the next day he referred to Harkin as “Dung Heap.” More recently, Harkin lambasted Limbaugh on the senate floor, saying Limbaugh “wouldn’t know the truth if it hit him in the face,” according to the Des Moines Register. And Limbaugh has taken to calling the senator “Dung Heap” Harkin on the air. This was a reference to a comment made by Harkin years ago, in which he called Bill Clinton’s impeachment charges “a pile of dung,” according to the Register.

Aaaahhh, thank you ...I thought I'd heard that previously...don't expect the press to point that out, though.

Limbaugh gets a single freakin hour on AFR, while NPR get a dozen or more per day. That's fair?

I say let's put on an hour of Pacifica Radio every day for our troops for every hour of Rush.

Honestly, I couldn't think of a better idea to expose our troops to liberalism in one of its vile, honest forms.

Limbaugh has nicknames for almost all liberal political figures - I doubt Harkin is getting any special attention from Rush

And the funny thing is that his nicknames spefically derive from that person's actions or words.

"What I object to is that Rush Limbaugh is on all week, and our troops get to hear him, but they don't get to hear any viewpoints from the other side of the political spectrum," Harkin said.

I say put one or both of them on the air.  Good heavens, soldiers need comic relief too ya know!

"Wouldn't know the truth if it hit him in the face"

Senator Dung Heap also got up on the Capitol steps as soon as those phoney CBS TNG Bush forgeries were released, and proclaimed that those documents proved President Bush was a liar...

Really, all the good senator wants to do is give equal time to people who hate our country and military, and want it to fail in its mission. After all, its not fair to the troops if they dont have at least an hour a day of radio broadcasts extolling the virtues of the 'freedom fighters', lengthy discussion on how US troops are all warcriminals, and fundraising drives for the DNC.

Dung Heap....ahahaha...that just made me laugh out loud. If he wants "fair and balanced" he should turn on Fox News.

Al Franken? Haven't they suffered enough?

I mean, wouldn't even Nancy Pelosi regard Al as torture?

Exactly. IIRC, the only reason Rush is heard at all on AFR (and only ONE HOUR of his show at that) is because of a troop write-in vote win several years ago.

I guess multiple hours of NPR and various network news shows isn't liberal enough for Harkin.

What Harken doesn't get is that AFR runs like any other radio station. They play what their audience wants to hear, not what momma thinks they should hear. Now eat your Brussels sprouts Tom and go to bed!

These dainties might be better described as political figurines as they are so easily broken up and may easily have their feelings hurt.

No, Harkin is still just a floater in the septic tank called the Senate where he and other floaters-all RATs- are the source a permanent stink in the chambers.
