Washington Post Assistant Managing Editor Bob Woodward testified under oath Monday in the CIA leak case that a senior administration official told him about CIA operative Valerie Plame and her position at the agency nearly a month before her identity was disclosed . . .

So, in other words, her position WAS known by others before that information became 'public'? An what is meant by a 'Senior Administration Official'? Are they still trying to nab Karl Rove?
Playing along, if he said "i didn't know plame's status with the CIA", it could be true, if:
He didn't know that she had previously been an undercover agent.
Remember, the information Libby had from the CIA was that she was an analyst. But the investigation was specifically trying to find out if the white house leaked her undercover status. The initial white house refutations were that nobody did that, and that's because nobody there knew she had been undercover.
In that context the statement by McClellan about Libby and Rove "not being involved" makes sense, because neither of them leaked her "undercover" status -- they didn't think analyst status was her "undercover" status, and it is NOVAK who had to explain that he didn't mean "undercover" whan he said "operative".
But really, this is all just fun and games for us, I don't pretend to be smarter than the lawyers Libby has on his team, just like I don't pretend I'm better at political strategy than Carl Rove.
Off topic, but fascinating. I just talked to a friend at work who was at a wedding on Saturday. There was a guy there (he think's named bob but not sure) who worked at the CIA.
This guy yold my friend that he was responsible for the NIE report in October of 2002. He said he PERSONALLY and VERBALLY briefed JAY ROCKEFELLER about the NIE report, including pointing out the dissenting information.
On Sunday, Jay Rockefeller said they only got that report a couple of days before the vote, and that they had to READ it (implying that they didn't have time to do so). But if he got a verbal briefing, his excuse on Sunday is a lie.
I wish I had been at this wedding to talk to the guy.
Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Rove, said that Rove is not the unnamed official who told Woodward about Plame and that he did not discuss Plame with Woodward.
By reading the commentary here, there are at least 10,000 freepers that are smarter than you. Just aks them.
If you thought you hadn't studied the issue enough, would you rush to vote on war?
AWESOME! This is hilarious -- Bob Woodward remembers but Pincus doesn't? My bet is on Woodward being correct.
The Big Mo is not in the prosecutor's favor, and the defense hasn't even started. It is likely that other reporters will suddenly remember knowing about Plame, and it is likely their source will be the CIA itself, as with Woodward.
But in the "code speak" of the MSM media words tend to mean things.
no law broken...now what ?
Duh, how does the unnamed government official (Bush, Cheney, Powell, Rumsfeld, Rice) saying they didnt believe the information was classified or sensitive, get Libby off. It just indicates the state of mind of the yet undisclosed government official who is now know to be the first person to have released Plames identity to someone outside the government. Libby is charged with lying, not leaking.
Director of Central Intelligence
Unfortunately Fleischer testified that he didnt know about Wilson and his wife until a week or so before the Novak column when Libby told him. Woodward claims he was told a month or more before Novak's column when he was doing interviews for his book on the run up to the war.
I knew that. The reason for the ??? was to ask if it might be the DCI. Thanks anyway.
The Indictment and Fitzgeralds statements alleged that Libby could NOT have learned of Plame from reporters because no reporters knew of Plame before Libby leaked the name. The idea that Plame was not widely known is becoming a joke.
Time to indict Pincus for lying to the Grand Jury.
Because he was writing a major book on the run up to war and you like to have your side of the story included. For each of his recent books, Woodward was given extensive access to Bush administration officials. He has had two or three hour interviews with President Bush, and extensive interviews with VP CHeney, Powell, Rummsfeld, Rice, etc.
Woodward also said in interviews this summer and fall that the damage done by Plame's name being revealed in the media was "quite minimal."
"When I think all of the facts come out in this case, it's going to be laughable because the consequences are not that great," he told National Public Radio this summer.
I don't have much hope that Fitzgerald will pursue it, but the ones who need to be investigated are the officials who authorized Wilson to go to Niger in the first place!
