Chertoff to Hannity: Removing 10~11M ILLEGALS too expensive and impractical
FoxNews Channel: Hannity & Colmes ^ | November 14, 2005 | Transcript

Posted on 11/15/2005 6:51:13 AM PST by DTogo

...HANNITY: Because you had made a controversial statement, and you seem to be backing off of it now, and it was that people that are here illegally, that they all ought to be sent back.

I'm paraphrasing.

And it seems like now you've sort of backed off that position a little bit, because there are million that we estimate that are in this country illegally.

Why wouldn't we send them back?

CHERTOFF: ...I also recognize we've got, according to some estimates, 10 to 11 million illegals already in this country working. And the cost of identifying all of those people and sending them back would be stupendous. It would be billions and billions of dollars...

HANNITY: Why — in that sense, aren't you really rewarding those that didn't respect our laws and sovereignty? In other words, OK, you're saying, you came into this country illegally.

Now that we've identified you, we're going to let you even stay longer and make money, and then you can go back in three to six years.

Why don't we say, no, you're here illegally, you didn't respect our laws, you ought to go home? Why don't we just say that?

CHERTOFF: Well, Sean, you know, it's really an issue of practicality.

I mean, as a practical matter, we've got to identify these people and pull them out of the shadows.

Now, this is not an amnesty. This is not — the president's proposal is not a path to citizenship. It's clearly temporary, and it clearly envisions people who would have to commit to go back....

Don't go down to their level. They are not racist because they want to control the border, we all want that but we realize there are realities that need to be addressed. Namecalling only proves that they have no real answers for the need for cheap labor that is productive to America. It is a market force that is what Capitalism creates. To pretend that these forces are controllable is wishful thinking, but hardly racist/xenophobic.

So make him legal to come here and pick the crops and then go back home to feed his family. Why make him a criminal if he is providing a service for us? Computerized work permits seem like a good alternative.

The DEA estimates that there are 10 -12 million cocaine users in this country. Dosen't stop us from going after all of them!

BINGO! The same goes for any other infraction of the law committed by American citizens - there is often a penalty.

Why should ILLEGAL aliens get a pass?

Chertoff was out to lunch when Katrina happened too. He was Brown's Boss, and he just slipped, slided away while Brown caught all the heat.
He is useless. Border, what border?
I have reached the point where I don't give a blankety-blank about IRAQ's BORDERS; bring our guys home, and let them patrol OUR BORDERS!
All the BILLIONS of $$$ and LIVES lost and maimed to do WHAT? Protect and 'Democratise' a 'nation' that shows it doesn't want us there daily, 10,000 miles away?
What about OUR country??? WE need to be protected HERE.

More than 10 million illegal immigrants are thought to live in the United States. The overwhelming majority are Hispanic; most are from Mexico. A new report from the Pew Hispanic Center examines where and how these undocumented immigrants live and work.

...Illegal immigrants can be found working in many sectors of the U.S. economy. About 3 percent work in agriculture; 33 percent have jobs in service industries; and substantial numbers can be found in construction and related occupations (16 percent) and in production, installation and repair (17 percent).

For what purpose? To present facts.

For the benefits you propose they bring, they bring dear costs, costs that go well beyond any benefits, costs in the form of crime, and with that, victims: 1) law enforcement deaths and related costs for 2) replacement of murdered law enforcement officials 3) time law enforcement must take away from other matters, i.e., citizen criminals who already occupy their time 4) costs on taxpayers for illegal alien housing and feeding them in jails; 5) costs on taxpayers educating them; 6) costs on taxpayers building more schools because aliens are creating severe over-crowding in classrooms; 7) costs to hospitals which are forced to treat them....then hospitals expect taxpayers (i.e., the "govt.") to reimburse them for the "free" medical care given; 8) cost to victims of car accidents due to illegals driving without insurance; 9) cost to victims (i.e., sole wage earners of a household) of illegal drunk drivers, who cannot pay the victims' families for their loss; 10) cost to American workers who are being displaced by illegals stealing their jobs; 11) cost to American workers in the form of lower wages paid out because of illegals being willing to take lower than what would otherwise prevail in the economy; 11) costs to the country in the form of taxes not being paid by illegals and, therefore, by the matching percentage by employers (therefore, employers are also stealing because they are paying under the table and not paying into FICA/Social Security).

Who said there wasn't a problem?? You act like we don't know that there is a problem. Until you address the overriding issue of manual labor that there is a shortage of you can never really address the border. By the way I am a Liberal so you don't have to go there ok!

Many people have already stated what to do concerning the Mexicans/aliens who want to come here and work in manual labor jobs (btw, only 3% of them are in agricutural jobs).

It's quite simple: people who wait in line to come into the U.S. to work, apply for work, will be processed to come in fill those job needs.....you know, kinda how legal people go about getting a job....they present the proper paperwork, apply, and get interviewed....just like illegals have been doing, with the exception that FIRST they must FOLLOW THE LAW, be allowed in the country, and seek employment, legally.

Dear Republican Party,

A recent article states “Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff says it's just not practical to deport the millions of foreigners in the country illegally.”

Would you inform Mr. Chertoff that we are not idiots, or fools, and do not believe him or President Bush. Deporting illegals has not been tried, even though there are laws for it on the books. The problem is that once an illegal manages to make it two miles from the border, NO ONE GOES AFTER THEM. What is needed if for illegals to start feeling the heat. To start looking over there shoulders, to become paranoid that they may get caught and deported. When the feel the heat they will leave on their own.

If we ACTUALLY and ACTIVELY started to seek out and deport illegal, that alone would start to cut the numbers coming across the border for the word would get out that we are getting tough on illegal immigration.

Further, if we confiscated all of an illegals assets like car and bank account (like drug dealers the money used to purchase these items was illegally obtained) it has been estimated that each illegal caught and deported would bring in about $3,000 to $10,000 to the state.

Please inform the President and Mr. Chertoff that we do not want excuses, we want the illegals deported. No ifs, ands, or buts.

I can personally state that there's at least a couple million of them right here in El-Lay/southern California, and the majority of them are NOT picking fruit.

They're taking every other imaginable entry level job, mostly working for cash, putting Californians out of work. Oh, I forgot, their wives and girlfriends are collecting more aid for children with every baby they pop out, which they usually do every year.

It is a fact that illegal aliens cost us billions of dollars each year, yet they contribute little to our system except to provide slave labor to greedy employers.

CLOSE THE BORDER, MR. BUSH - WE'RE BEING INVADED, AND YOU HAVEN'T FIRED A SHOT IN DEFENSE!

A farmer might need a rain, but he doesn't need a flood to wash the crops away. The Mexicans have been good for our country in a lot of ways. But they also have been a drain on the healthcare industry, they have brought too much crime, have burdened our education system and social services, and now we have the al Queda threat over the open border. There is just too much risk to maintain the status quo. Immigration needs to be controlled and systematic.

"Yes, kinda. But it's also morally wrong to, say, not pay full sales tax on a used car, but I don't want to throw everybody in the can who does it. The disease isn't worth the price of the cure."

Please, that's pathetic. Immigration and border laws are some of our most basic laws. It's one of the few real reasons the federal government exists. To compare it to somebody not paying sales tax is sickening.

"And that's not even to mention the amount of money it would cost for the manpower to find and deport them, and also says nothing of the human cost of spending police time hunting down illegals who are otherwise law abiding instead of murderers/rapist/drug dealers/whatever."

And many of theose murderers, rapists, drug dealers, etc, are illegal aliens as well.

Maybe you just don't get it or choose not to. The culture of illegal immigration fosters MORE illegal behavior - people afraid to turn to the police, people relying on different illegal services - it absolutely breeds MORE law breaking, not less.

You take away the millions of illegals that allow these criminals to hide, take away the way they make their money - and many of them go away because there's no money to be made.

Just a) tighten border security and b) ban the wire transfer of money by private individuals to Mexico, and the problem will take care of itself. They will have to take their money back south, and won't be able to get back in.

After about a year, deporting the rest would be practical and affordable again, wouldn't it.

Your solution makes way too much sense ever to be adopted by the gibbering idiots who have occupied the Capitol.

Go study econ 101American civics before you make this nonsense up. Capitalism and slavery have coexisted and still coexist. Free enterprise and slavery cannot. Our country was built on free enterprise, we abhorred slavery enough to amend the constitution to get rid of it. But you falsely named "free traders" applaud slavery. In fact you make rules through the WTO so that a country cannot be denied a trade agreement because they are slavers or communists or despots. You see, "free traders" know that slaves are the ultimate cheap labor, and they don't want anything like morals to get in the way of it. So morally speaking most Americans are appalled at the thought of doing business with slavers, yet here we are enriching China, India, Burma, the Dominican Republic and other nations that enslave people.

I pray for the president. I pray that he casts off the "free trader" philosophy and rejoins the ranks of freedom loving Americans.

Do you even have an idea what slavery is. You only make your argument foolish when you use terms like that. Go to the Sudan if you want to find slave traders. That is just plain silly. They come here because they can make 5 years wages in a year, some slavery!

LOL!! Could you be more vague? Why don't you just say "I read it somewhere". I'll take your source for what it is, valueless.

It is a thing called "google" and I found it on the first look at "illegals in military." Evidently going for the combo prize of stupid AND lazy. This time only. In the future, I won't wast my time. Here you go http://www.military.com/NewContent/0,13190,Defensewatch_030104_Illegals,00.html.
