Chertoff to Hannity: Removing 10~11M ILLEGALS too expensive and impractical
FoxNews Channel: Hannity & Colmes ^ | November 14, 2005 | Transcript

Posted on 11/15/2005 6:51:13 AM PST by DTogo

...HANNITY: Because you had made a controversial statement, and you seem to be backing off of it now, and it was that people that are here illegally, that they all ought to be sent back.

I'm paraphrasing.

And it seems like now you've sort of backed off that position a little bit, because there are million that we estimate that are in this country illegally.

Why wouldn't we send them back?

CHERTOFF: ...I also recognize we've got, according to some estimates, 10 to 11 million illegals already in this country working. And the cost of identifying all of those people and sending them back would be stupendous. It would be billions and billions of dollars...

HANNITY: Why — in that sense, aren't you really rewarding those that didn't respect our laws and sovereignty? In other words, OK, you're saying, you came into this country illegally.

Now that we've identified you, we're going to let you even stay longer and make money, and then you can go back in three to six years.

Why don't we say, no, you're here illegally, you didn't respect our laws, you ought to go home? Why don't we just say that?

CHERTOFF: Well, Sean, you know, it's really an issue of practicality.

I mean, as a practical matter, we've got to identify these people and pull them out of the shadows.

Now, this is not an amnesty. This is not — the president's proposal is not a path to citizenship. It's clearly temporary, and it clearly envisions people who would have to commit to go back....

It will be expensive...at least he is right there....but since when has the cost of ANYTHING ever stopped Washington from doing it?

And what is more impractical, NOT going after those that are breaking our laws and thereby letting them CONTINUE to do so, or to attempt to keep this country for the LEGAL residents?

I know that Washington is at it's base illogical, but sometimes it gets downright stupid.

Good God people, Chertoff is right. It's impossible and not even remotly worth the effect it would have on the economy.

I'm all for plugging up the border, but saying send 10 million people home is just stupid.

Send home those who are here and have been making trouble? Sure, but if they have worked hard, and haven't done anything else, let'em stay.

So, your daughter WAS benefitting, even if you did not ask for said benefits.

MY MY MY!!! You ARE a spiteful little b*stard, aren't you? Actually, you are still incorrect. They did not know. She is very "high functioning" and you don't pick up on it till you ask her abstract questions or computational questions.

ANYWAY, the point was that she went head to head with a latino workforce and got the job and kept the job because she has good, successful work habits. They work for latinos, and they work for whites, even if the whites are operating at a disadvantage. Only a complete anal sphincter would try and turn that into some kind of referendum on whether she got preferential treatment due to her diminished capacity. Ain't free speech wonderful?

Since you've avoided or won't answer the question I posed regarding the percentage of illegals aliens in American jails, bray, here's an indication:

AIM Report: Soros, Cash and Kerry
March 19, 2004

Currently there are roughly two- million inmates incarcerated in the United States. According to reliable sources, 30 percent of federal prison inmates are illegal aliens. According to those same sources, 60 percent of that 30 percent are illegal Mexican aliens. According to an investigative reporter with the Washington Times, at any given moment there are 80,000 illegal aliens loose on the streets of America who have been convicted of murder, rape, robbery and child molestations and other serious crimes.

Feds pay $5.8 billion to jail criminal aliens

Government study over past 3 years reveals burden borne by taxpayers
Posted: May 10, 2005

© 2005 WorldNetDaily.com

The U.S. federal government spent $5.8 billion over the past three years to incarcerate criminal aliens – nonresidents who are in the country illegally or legally and convicted of a crime [in other words, additional crime(s) other than being illegally within the U.S.].

The report by the General Accounting Office – the investigative arm of Congress – shows the number of criminal aliens in federal prisons increased from about 42,000 at the end of 2001 to about 49,000 at the end of last year. [snip]

Illegal Alien Crime Wave in Full Swing
By Jim Kouri, CPP
August 4, 2005

In the population study of 55,322 illegal aliens, researchers found that they were arrested at least a total of 459,614 times, averaging about 8 arrests per illegal alien. Nearly all had more than 1 arrest. Thirty-eight percent (about 21,000) had between 2 and 5 arrests, 32 percent (about 18,000) had between 6 and 10 arrests, and 26 percent (about 15,000) had 11 or more arrests. Most of the arrests occurred after 1990.

They were arrested for a total of about 700,000 criminal offenses, averaging about 13 offenses per illegal alien. One arrest incident may include multiple offenses, a fact that explains why there are nearly one and half times more offenses than arrests. Almost all of these illegal aliens were arrested for more than 1 offense. Slightly more than half of the 55,322 illegal aliens had between 2 and 10 offenses.

Immigration and the Alien Gang Epidemic: Problems and Solutions
Testimony, April 13, 2005

Testimony of Heather Mac Donald, Senior Fellow, Manhattan Institute for Policy Research, before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security, and Claims

Law enforcement officials estimate that 20% of gang members in San Diego County are illegal, according to the Union-Tribune. The L.A. County Sheriff reported in 2000 that 23% of inmates in county jails were deportable, according to the New York Times.

In Los Angeles, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide in the first half of 2004 (which totaled 1,200 to 1,500) targeted illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) were for illegal aliens.

County Takes On Illegal Immigrants

Leading the charge against the illegal immigrant influx is Canyon County Commissioner Robert Vasquez.

* * *

"It is an economic attack on the United States," Vasquez, who is of Mexican heritage, explains.

But as Vasquez likes to point out, his grandfather came to the United States legally. Vasquez says illegal workers cost the county millions and, in a legal first, he's turning to the courts to get the money back.

* * * "They're bringing in crime and they're also bringing in the gang culture," Vasquez says.

The local jail is overcrowded with a large number of immigration cases.

John M. Morganelli Testifies on "Local Enforcement of Immigration Laws"
Capital Hill Hearing, October 1, 2003

Despite the voices of those who naively believe that the influx of this estimated 9 to 13 million illegal aliens into the United States is a positive thing, the fact of the matter is that illegal immigration is having an extremely negative impact upon America at many levels. Unfortunately, the majority of illegal aliens who are here are engaged in criminal activity. Identity theft, use of fraudulent social security numbers and green cards, tax evasion, driving without licenses represent some of the crimes that are engaged in by the majority of illegal aliens on a daily basis merely to maintain and hide their illegal status. In addition, violent crime and drug distribution and possession is also prevalent among illegal aliens. Over 25% of today's federal prison population are illegal aliens. In some areas of the country, 12% of felonies, 25% of burglaries and 34% of thefts are committed by illegal aliens. The numerous crimes being committed by illegal aliens such as identity theft, fraud and use of false identification is causing havoc with record-keeping systems including but not limited to Social Security, income tax and other compilation of data that we have routinely relied upon for accuracy and identity verification. Just about every day, municipal and state police come in contact with illegal aliens who are utilizing fraudulent documents, false names and other people's identities. Identification of these individuals is impossible and, quite frankly, many of the illegal aliens committing crimes here in the United States have criminal records from their country of origin which cannot be ascertained because of their continuous use of false identities. Clearly, in addition to being a crime issue, the growing population of illegal aliens in the United States is without a doubt the single most important national security issue facing us.

I wasn't surprised that you had no replies to your post DTogo.

I am continually astounded by the crowd on FR that supports the trashing of our country, the crime, the expense, the cheapening of citizenship, and the usurping of our culture that is going on because of illegal immigration.

They must not have children because I couldn't look my children in the face if they knew I didn't do all I could do to preserve a prosperous, harmonious, and safe America for their future.

Keep up the good work.

Moral Relativisim to equate ILLEGAL INFILTRATORS with speeding! Bravo, and thank you for exposing yourself for what you are!

Why I'm "shocked" that you are shocked. Create a country that is a light on a hill beaming opportunity and then you are surprised that someone is willing to break the law to get in. Shocked I say. You see this crime of walking across the Rio Grande as equivalent to murder and rape. Gosh. No wonder you're shocked that the government doesnt do anything but basically give out traffic tickets. I see it as self selection. I would take a motivated illegal any day over a lazy shiftless fourth generation welfare recipient in the ghetto.

And tell me why we shouldn't have a bounty on them, and shoot them on sight as they cross ILLEGALLY into this Country! They are Illegal, criminals, and break MORE than one law here!

Oh please. Cry me some tears about your illegal immigrant problem in New Hampshire. Do you happy New Englanders shoot people as they jaywalk, dont wear their seat belts, or pay their taxes on time? Do you shoot the drunken canuck that takes the wrong turn and crosses the border?

I always love hearing the stories about how hispanics are not just the same as us American citizens theyre better!

In this case, they were. In my daughter's case, no. It is called "competition" -where the best man wins- and used to be a lynchpin of belief among conservatives before they bought into protectionism and rigged markets.

Let's not stop there, Dave S......how 'bout if someone's seeing the light upon the hill...and it's coming from a mansion of a rich business owner, or movie star, or performer.....should we slap the guy on the back who decides to be "motivated" enough to break in and steal their things? I mean, should anyone be surprised that a have-not wants to break into the mansion and take...because, obviously, the mansion owner has more money and stuff than the have-nots.

I have yet to see a rational, logical, thinking, response by any pro-illegal alien poster; what I do see is a lot of moral relativism, excuse-making, and fairy tales.

You are a sad case of confusion. Yes Bush has problems...some too real, others just silly BS, fabricated by the Dems or by know-nothing, semi-educated losers like you who literally know zero about government and politics. Morons that sit around in their dimwitted trances imagining that they(!!!) know better than the President how to run our country.
The Democrats in all reality may never make a comeback because they have abandoned our country in a fit of hatred for our country and virtually all of our core values. The idea that they will somehow excell in coming elections is ridiculous...they are toast...so are you...mouthing off about any and everything as if you have a brain in that chowder bucket you call a head.
The saving grace will be the sober and decent citizens in the heartland of our nation who have totally had it with the Dems and the Liberal Socialists and you goof balls who tag along like retards mimicking and spouting silly slogans
Bless Jim Robinson for creating a forum for these kinds of exchanges in freedom of expression. It serves us all well to witness our incredible strength as a free nation and our unbelievable dopiness where just about any bum can spout off like a mynah bird on the first shred of a thought that crosses his dim mind.
Against this background of chaos it is an incredible miracle that we are still the greatest nation in the world.

It would not cost Billions and Billions....

Just impose the following:

Birth Certificates (or naturalization) for children.
Valid Drivers licenses (backed by birth certificates or naturalization papers) for employment.
Valid Drivers licenses for community health care.
Valid Drivers licenses for public utilities.

I hope you understand that I never believed that what I suggested should be done.

Of course. I thought you were deliberately being ridiculous and I just piled on. I am amazed at the degree of freedoms these people will cede to the fed over a threat that is really not a threat...., or at least should not be one. It is a big problem, but it is astounding to me that the "just enforce the laws" crowd is willing to cede phenomenal power to the fed necessary to round up and expel 10 million plus people. It makes me wonder if they have a clue as to what they are advocating, or if they are aware that they are advocating programs that will bring about socialism faster than reading Marx to the schoolkiddies every morning. And they get so PISSED when you tell them they aren't conservatives, but statists! But it is true.

"You see this crime of walking across the Rio Grande as equivalent to murder and rape"

Wow, how continually dishonest of you.

It is not equivalent to murder and rape.

But those who have walked across the rio grande have been committing murder, rape, kidnapping, drunk driving, and other crimes in startling numbers. Of course, you continually ignore that and bluster on about other idiotic claptrap hoping people don't notice it.

Pathetic.
