EARTHQUAKE DATA PRELIMINARY MAGNITUDE - 7.3 LOCATION - 38.2N 144.8E - OFF EAST COAST OF HONSHU, JAPAN TIME - 1239 AST 11/14/2005 1339 PST 11/14/2005 2139 UTC 11/14/2005 EVALUATION BASED ON MAGNITUDE AND HISTORIC TSUNAMI INFORMATION THE EARTHQUAKE WAS NOT SUFFICIENT TO GENERATE A TSUNAMI DAMAGING TO CALIFORNIA - OREGON - WASHINGTON - BRITISH COLUMBIA OR ALASKA. SOME OF THESE AREAS MAY EXPERIENCE SMALL SEA LEVEL CHANGES. IN COASTAL AREAS OF INTENSE SHAKING LOCALLY GENERATED TSUNAMIS CAN BE TRIGGERED BY UNDERWATER LANDSLIDES. THE PACIFIC TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER WILL ISSUE TSUNAMI BULLETINS FOR HAWAII AND OTHER AREAS OF THE PACIFIC. THIS WILL BE THE ONLY BULLETIN ISSUED FOR THIS EVENT BY THE WEST COAST AND ALASKA TSUNAMI WARNING CENTER UNLESS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE. Earthquakes have been happening since God created Earth. Blitzer and the whacked out left think it is a "new thing" goin on....to quote him..."hey what's with all these hurricanes and earthquakes all of a sudden...are scientists not picking up on weather patterns or global warming?"

Refresh my memory please. The closer to the surface an earthquake occurs the more likely it is to cause a tsunami, correct? The deeper, the less likely.

No matter how shallow it is a 7.2 can, but is somewhat unlikely, to have created a tsunami, and if it does it's unlikely to be large or damaging unless it set off an underwater landslide.
