Bad gear deal makes internet seller an instant celebrity (vanity)
Pirate 4x4 forums ^ | 11-14-05 | mysterio

Has anyone else seen this?

Ok, background. This kid named Charlie Wenzel tries to sell some gears over the internet for $100. A guy buys the gears, but then Wenzel tries to change the price. This all unfolds on the Pirate 4x4 forums, and the whole board gets involved. They post the guys Social Security number, place of employment, high school pictures, pictures of his parents, personal phone numbers, and satellite photos of his house. It's like watching AYBABTU unfold all over again. The thread was about 68 pages last time I checked it. 400,000 views. The site is almost totally down from the bandwidth issues, but it's already popping up on google searches all over the internet.

Sorry if I posted this incorrectly. I just thought Freepers would want a heads up on this humorous internet phenomenon.

Looks like their forums are down just as I posted this. It figures. It is a truly hilarious read once they can handle the bandwidth. Basically, forums all over the net are picking up on this and linking to it because it's so funny to read. Hence, the site goes down.

Yeah, it's been posted here before. I didn't see it. I followed a link from some other forum, and saw FR mentioned. I got seventy pages in before it crashed :)

Do you know if the check cleared? Today was the day...

Yeah, I couldn't find it here. Sorry for the duplicate post. I have been searching and I can't find if the check cleared or not. My gosh, can you imagine how embarassed the kid must be by now? I mean, this could easily get picked up by late night comedy, and then the dude's picture will really go worldwide. Someone has already registered Wenzeled.com and started selling t-shirts. Amazing.

It was a gear for a 4x4, supposedly new, but in reality the gears were used. The other posters go after the kid in an extremely rabid and personal way.

If the kid really pulled some crap...he should hear about it in a big way.

That said, Pirate 4X4 is about the most unfriendly Jeep forum out there. Some good tech info in the archives but most of the participants would have you belive they were never jeep noobs. A bunch of high strung arseholes for the most part.

NAXJA is far superior.

If only! That was the problem -- he kept fanning the flames. I've never heard so many variations of "Yeah, what're you fags going to do about it?" It sounds like he's pulled this crap before, on eBay and elsewhere, and daddy always bailed him out.

Even his apology message, he threw in some "so butt out you morons!" comments at the end. Then edited his original remarks repeatedly, making them milder and more apologetic, which made people who'd answered his first message look messed up. That won't help calm tempers.

A spoiled, smart-mouth kid who has no idea what he's stepped in, from the looks of things.

I didn't even see the apology thread. I'll bet that one's a classic, too. I hope for his sake the check cleared.
