Juan Lizcano, a 28-year-old Mexican immigrant, ...

We can be pretty sure he was one of those fine, upstanding "immigrants" that came here for a better life.

Hey, Karl and George, this what you mean by "compassionat conservatism"?

TXCN reported it via a rebroadcast of WFAA's story regarding the incident.

How sad this is. A death is always painful, but a newlywed makes it worse.

It hurts but it's an especially grating hurt when it's someone from your agency. Did you know Officer Jackson or have you been gone a while?

Suffice it to say, I think we can go a heck of A LOT farther to protect our country from invaders and lawbreakers. However, I don't think that disparaging the President will solve anything constructive. Making a human chain around the perimeter of our nation might get the President's and Congress' attention. Maybe we should begin our own list of all Americans killed by terrorists and illegals breaking, entering and terrorizing our fellow countrymen?

Which stations have reported the immigration status? I still haven't heard anyone but Ankarlo mention it.

Just watched Dallas NBC 5, even they are reporting this killer's *status* as illegal.

(usually this station seems to always avoid imm. status of criminals)

Is the uncle legal? I wonder if his nephew is the only illegal he sheltered...

No, he started after I left but I heard from someone there who did know him. Pretty decent guy from what I hear.

I like the chain idea! We could all do that, no traveling!

Check out http://www.immigrationshumancost.org/. Michael Cutler, former INS agent says more American lives are lost each year to illegal immigrants than were lost on 911. It's difficult to get all the figures because sometimes illegals aren't even figured in crime statistics and the media is want to provide "status".

Oh...every day I am pinged to articles about Americans being murdered, killed by drunk drivers, raped, shot, stabbed by people who are illegally in our country. I think someone needs to keep a running list of all these threads, at very least.

I just saw this on the Albuquerque news tonight. His parents and grandparents live in Albuquerque. I hope they fry the scum that did this. Prayers go out for his family.

This story is just heartbreaking. Officer Jackson's boss...Mike Smith, maybe, was on Hannity & Colmes tonight. It was a strange interview...if you saw it you'll probably know what I mean. His boss kept saying that the Dallas Police are not immigration officials, or something to that effect. He said they can't and won't do any check on a person's residency. He may have even said that they are not authorized to do so.

Excuse me, but, HUH? I just don't know what to say.

If you know anyone local who'd like to attend, FReepers or otherwise, this was posted in one of the papers...

A candlelight vigil is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday in memory of Officer Brian Jackson at the central police patrol station at 334 S. Hall St. in Dallas.

From WFAA-TV...

"[I want him remembered] as a son, a brother, a husband, a brother-in-law, a friend and a grandson," she said. "He was a police officer, but he was a person too. He was my husband, and I want people to know he was a good person."

Jackson recalled a story of her husband helping a Louisiana evacuee who was stranded on the side of the road.

"Brian took the last $60 out of his wallet and gave it to him to help him cover the cost to get his car fixed because he had no money left," she said.

Jackson said her husband was always volunteering to help people, and would have given the shirt of his back.

But in the end, Officer Jackson gave much more.

Jackson said she is touched by the outpouring of support and love she has received from the community and the men and women of the Dallas Police Department.

The candlelight vigil for Officer Jackson will be Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at Central Patrol in Dallas.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Highland Oaks Church of Christ.

Live coverage of the funeral will be on WFAA.com, digital channel 8.2 or TXCN.

Part of a Dallas News story from today...

"Officer Jackson's shift was long over, but he joined in the chase, over fences and through yards. It was his job.

The suspect emptied his .357 Magnum. The last shot struck Officer Jackson under his arm, just past the protection of a bulletproof vest. He is the 76th Dallas officer to die in the line of duty. If he hadn't been shot, you probably would never have heard of him. And that's a shame.

I'm heading to bed now. I think this piece was very well said...

"It's also possible that, even sober, he is so stupid and vicious that he doesn't care.

Whether Mr. Lizcano is still exhibiting the gangsta-cool indifference he assumed in the hours after his arrest or is full of blubbering remorse doesn't really matter.

Nor does it matter – not right now, anyway – that Mr. Lizcano appears to have been in this country illegally or that he was apparently a vengeful, self-pitying imbecile with a sadistic habit of getting drunk and beating up his sometime-girlfriend.

What matters today is the awful death of Officer Brian Jackson and the cruel shock his slaying has been to his wife and his colleagues in the Dallas Police Department..."
