NABLUS, West Bank - Israeli troops killed a senior Hamas militant in an overnight arrest raid Monday, Palestinian medical officials and neighbors of the man said.
Troops arrived at the home of Amjad Hanawi, 34, Hamas' top military commander in the northern West Bank, shortly after midnight, according to the accounts.
The soldiers ordered Hanawi's family out of the house. While most members came out of the house, Hanawi refused and tried to escape. He was shot as he tried to climb a fence. The neighbors claimed that army dogs attacked several family members.
Hamas members drove through the streets of Nablus, announcing Hanawi's death over loudspeakers. A funeral was planned later Monday morning.
The army said it was investigating the reports. But military officials did say there had been an arrest raid in Nablus overnight and that one person opened fire on troops and tried to escape before being shot. The officials did not identify the target of the raid. The officials could not be identified under military regulations.
The killing threatened to raise tensions as dignitaries from around the world gathered in Israel to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin by a Jewish ultranationalist. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived late Sunday, and international Mideast envoy James Wolfensohn has been meeting with top Israeli and Palestinian officials in hopes of wrapping up an agreement on reopening the Gaza Strip's border crossings.
Do you ever wonder why you never see headlines saying "Israeli Troops Kill Rookie Hamas Militant" ?
Way to go! With every terrorist that acquires room temperature, the world gets a little bit better.
Oh, that's easy. The rookie Hamas Militants are the ones who get talked into wearing the bomb belts.
Now here's a question for you: Why is it that they refer to those terrorists as "Hamas Militants"? That's just redundant. I mean, have you heard of a member of Hamas that wasn't militant?
Here's a couple more from over the weekend..
The body of Shoga Balawi, 20, one of the local leaders of the Al Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, a violent offshoot of the governing Fatah party, is carried by fellow militants for burial along the streets of the West Bank town of Jenin Sunday Nov. 13, 2005. Israeli forces shot and killed Balawi during a shootout in Jenin late Saturday, Palestinian and Israeli military officials said Sunday. Israeli military said it could not immediately say whether the militant posed an immediate threat to troops at the time he was shot. The man might have been wounded when the Israeli patrol opened fire at the three Palestinians, it said. (AP Photo/Mohammed Ballas)
Relatives and friends mourn over the body of 22-year-old Bilal Asha prior to his funeral at the family house in the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis Sunday Nov. 13, 2005. He was killed and another Palestinian wounded late Saturday by Israeli army troops as they were approaching the fence separating the Gaza Strip from Israel. Watch the UN and our own stupid State Dept condemn "this senseless act" by Israel.

Yeah, I guess "Hamas Pacifist" would be an oxymoron.
Oh the duplicity of the LMSM, kill a terr perp and it will raise tensions and foster problems. Perps kill 50 odd innocents weekly, rates a ho hum and big LMSM yawn.
Right up there with "Patriotic Democrat"!
We (the civilized world) need to start shifting our aim up the chain of command to Iran.
