The question the article doesn't address is this: what will happen after 2045, when the boomers finally do die off?

A huge amount of capital will be transferred, and a huge tax burden will be removed. People who had to work hard all their lives to get by will suddenly have it much easier. What will they do?

Generational collectives are as stupid as biological ones. Does anyone think all Boomers think as Boomers? If we were all drones in one time-span why are there still two parties and very devisive politics? Hey Hey we're the Monkees.

Generational angst is the dumbest dumbass perspective the world has produced - mainly only young teenagers use it, excepting this author, and, those commercial producers of the Monkees.

This is a good thing. As people get older they tend to get more conservative. Not to mention the "old people trying to get into heaven now" effect.

This could all work out rather well.

81 percent of boomers plan to work past the age of 65.

Hi, welcome to Wal Mart!

Most of we men in the younger half of Baby Boomers will have to work until we die. It's likely that we won't live that long, too.

You'll be supporting most of those who divorced us for a long time, though.

Listen to how Newsweek put it in a cover story this week on the boomers turning 60: ``They and their siblings invented not just the epiphenomena of youth culture -- blue jeans and rock music, sexual permissiveness and political alienation -- but the very idea of youth as a separate realm of experience and knowledge.''

Commies did that, specifically Gramsci. Hippies just happened to be there when it started to come to fruition.

You youngsters just keep working your behinds off 'cause ol' Lancey expects to get every last dime of Sosh Security and Medi-care I got coming to me. The politicians have bent me over for decades to pay for other people who I don't even know, and now it's YOUR turn for the politicians to have their way with YOU. Take the advice of that crazy judge who once said, "You may as well just try to enjoy it."

Americans can't make it through a presidential election without rehashing the Vietnam War. The phenomenon began when the nation's first boomer president, Bill Clinton, was accused by some of dodging the draft to avoid going to Vietnam.

There is STILL doubt? Mr. "I loathe the military"???

The phenomenon reached ridiculous new heights in the 2004 election with the emphasis on Swift boat veterans and George W. Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard.

The Swift Boat veterans were a response to the treasonous John Kerry's claims of being a "hero". At the end of the Vietnam War, he served the other side as a lying propagandist, partnered with some who plotted to assassinate elected congressmen who supported the war. He was HERO alright, for the North Vietnamese communists who WON the war.

And the subject of Bush's National Guard service was purely a leftist political smear. When you see the draft dodging Bill Clinton next to John Kerry on the podium, it blows a hole in any argument that Kerry tried to make about Bush's service being dishonerable. And CBS and AP ran with forged memos for a week.

So, the boomers will "keep on working as long as their minds and bodies hold up."

=================================================

When did that become a bad thing? When did the Protestant Work Ethic become a negative? What? When slackers came along? Oh, ok then.

Couldn't help but notice they left Gore and Kerry's name out of the mix (though they mentioned the the Swifties). I can't tell if they're trying to protect 'em or forget 'em. But they couldn't resist the dig at Pres. Bush.

I'm not sure what the point of this article/editorial was - Boomers are bad or good? Maybe it was just a pure FYI article w/both pro- and con- editorializing.

Boomers Aren't Going Anywhere

I wish the liberal ones would move to Canada like they promised after the 2000 and/or the 2004 election. That would help a lot.
