If you are a conservative at Smith, it is more than likely that you have been told at least once to "educate yourself." In an effort to be P.C. even in their criticisms of conservatives, the most common liberal dismissal of conservative beliefs is ignorance. According to liberals, all conflicting beliefs could be solved through education, which is really a nice way of saying "increased exposure to liberal brainwashing."
However, it has long been a fact that when people are given the option to educate themselves, conservative beliefs consistently win out. Conservatives have long dominated the sale of political books, the airwaves of talk radio and recently political blogs. For liberals, the most embarrassing example of this domination was the failed experiment of Air America, the liberal response to conservative talk shows.
The history of Air America can be described as, shall we say, less than proud. The most reprehensible event of their short life involved an extremely unusual loan of approximately $800,000 made by the largely publicly-funded Boys and Girls Club to Air America. After an investigation was launched into this scandal, the Boys and Girls Club lost funding, leaving many underprivileged clients virtually without care.
This is not to make mention of Air America's humiliating begging for donations (highly unusual for a commercial radio station), talk show host Randi Rhodes' skit in which she offered a gunshot warning to President Bush, or the pleading of California radio station KOMY for its advertisers to support the failing Air America. But this week, in what may be the final nail in the coffin, the Arbitron rating service reported that Air America has no measurable audience in the nation's capital. During this time, conservative talk radio has been thriving, and advertising time for the sister station of Air America, that which airs Rush Limbaugh, has been consistently sold out.
Liberals are currently politically weak, and the last thing they need is a representative of their party kicking them while they are down. The longer that Air America is allowed to exist, the more embarrassingly pathetic and corrupt they have become. Of course, the liberal media has been eager to brush this issue under the rug. However, regardless of how these scandals have affected public opinion of the Democratic Party, they have undeniably and deeply wronged the clients of the Boys and Girls Clubs. Air America has done nothing good for liberals and nothing good for the public, and liberals would be well advised to let the station disappear quietly, before they can get themselves into any more trouble. If the recent D.C. ratings, or lack thereof, are indicative of what will become a national trend, they may not even have to lift a finger to do so.
In the meantime, liberals are likely to continue calling conservatives ignorant and uninformed. At least we can know that in the real world marketplace of ideas, where individuals are granted free exposure to political thought, it is the right which is winning.
Play taps, somebody.
I was stunned to learn that this so-called network was even on the air. I live in the Boston area and this is supposedly a liberal area. However, I have never heard about this network being on the air. So all this fuss does not make much sense to me.
"Liberals are currently politically weak"
Yes, and i hope that they stay that way!
And, the reason is that conservative beliefs are rooted in logic and reason while liberal beliefs are rooted in fantasy and wishful thinking.
As Neal Boortz said last week, you might want to send in a donation to keep them on the air because if you don't AA might appeal to congress to take a new look at the "fairness doctrines", then demand equal time against the conservative stations.
Liberals are weak because they have NO MORAL CAPITAL.
"No measurable audience". I love that line. They should put that on Franken's tombstone.
"As Neal Boortz said last week, you might want to send in a donation to keep them on the air...."
NO!
I've heard this argument before and have always wondered how it would work. Rush and the other conservative talk show hosts do a lot of advertising and are, apparently, very effective at it. What company in their right mind would want AA to do advertising for them? Who's going to buy something on the recommendation of people who are unable to frame a reasonable argument about anything? Maybe they could do an effective advertisement for "Depends" diapers?
Agreed!
Get yer hankies ready.
If you like leftist bias, you can get the same stories, with the same liberal spin, from any MSM outlet (sometimes word-for-word).
You can disagree with some of the things Rush says, but at least HE is saying it --- he's not mouthing someone else's talking points.
Only if the product is used to collect the excrement coming from the hosts mouths.
I never thought AA would succedd since most people listen to the radio to and from work.
"If Bill O'Reilly says it--it's gold."
