all i can say is I am SO happy our southern labor pool is nominally catholic.

C. and S. American political and military institutions, and public expectations of same, do leave a lot to be desired, even by our standards, but this is true pretty much anywhere that people are going to want to leave to come here.

I would say, despite all the differences, we have like 500-1000% MORE culturally in common with central and south americans than europe does in this madness of allowing muslims to become their primary imported labor source. I simply don't understand why they didn't let sane people from any of a number of asian countries come instead in the quantities being imported from north africa and other muslim states.

That's quite true. Immigration issues aside, most of the Hispanic people I know are decent, hard-working people, very oriented around their families.

The only country that has tried to do this is Spain, which under Aznar made many visas available to Latin Americans in order to encourage a "guest worker" population that shared the values of the host country. I believe someone in the Italian government suggested that Italy do this - take in guest workers from Catholic African countries - and was immediately screamed down and called a racist by the left. Of course.
