CONFIRMATION POLITICS Although freshman Democratic Sen. Ken Salazar has removed his hold on the nomination, former White House Counsel C. Boyden Gray is still being blocked by Democrats for confirmation as U.S. ambassador to the European Union.
The unidentified senator now imposing the hold is believed to be Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin, who did not return this column's call. The objection to Gray is a 2-year-old television ad by Gray's Committee for Justice accusing senators of blocking the confirmation of Judge William Pryor because he is Catholic.
A footnote: Director of National Intelligence (DNI) John Negroponte last Tuesday wrote Senate leaders pleading with them to confirm White House lawyer Benjamin A. Powell as the DNI office's general counsel. The unexplained Democratic hold on Powell, wrote Negroponte, "is hindering necessary transformation" of the Intelligence Community.

Time for another recess appointment?
I heard Mort Kondrake on Beltway Boys tonight say that the "new Democratic plans" to save America were supposed to be out by now...but have been put off until next year....
I can see why....how could they possibly have time to think of any new positive changes, or a positive agenda, when it is obvious that they spend every minute of every day finding rules that allow them to be total obstructionists...and pains in the butt!
Exactly.
Yes.
Don't you mean plans to destroy America or their French model plan
Ah, yes.... well put...much better than I did.
(Lancey Howard) Exactly.
(Republican Wildcat) Yes.
And not just an appointment to get him in, or to get him through...W needs to explain, just like he did with John Bolton, why he made the decision to recess appoint...not leave it up for speculation...I mean, the RATs are going to scream bloody murder anyway, so I say, "let them scream while we work!"
This is what I mean (from Bolton's appointment presser, courtesy of http://www.whitehouse.gov):
THE PRESIDENT: Nearly five months ago, I nominated John Bolton to be America's Ambassador to the United Nations. I chose John because of his vast experience in foreign policy, his integrity and his willingness to confront difficult problems head-on. I told the nation that John Bolton would provide clear American leadership for reform at the United Nations. I told them that he would insist upon results.
The United States Senate held thorough confirmation hearings, and a majority of United States senators agree that he is the right man for the job. Yet, because of partisan delaying tactics by a handful of senators, John was unfairly denied the up or down vote that he deserves.
As a result, America has now gone more than six months without a permanent ambassador to the United Nations. This post is too important to leave vacant any longer, especially during a war and a vital debate about U.N. reform. So today I've used my constitutional authority to appoint John Bolton to serve as America's Ambassador to the United Nations. John Bolton will be an important member of my State Department team, led by Condoleezza Rice.
THAT'S what I want to hear.
C. Boyden Gray (Clayland Boyden Gray), of the District of Columbia, was nominated (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/07/20050725-7.html) July 25, 2005, by President George W. Bush to be Representative of the United States of America to the European Union, with the rank and status of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
Gray's nomination was sent (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/nominations/504.html) to the Senate July 25, 2005, and the status of his nomination is pending.
That IS all they do .. plot, scheme and obstruct and delay. They're miserable. And what would they be planning to save US from?? We pray only to be saved from them.
You can't be talking about our democrats......
