Howard Dean's Dismal Fundraising

After eight months as chairman of the Democratic National Committee, how is Howard Dean doing? Poorly -- at least from a financial perspective.

Republicans are handily winning the fundraising race by nearly a 2-to-1 margin, reports the Washington Post. That massive imbalance has caught the attention of Democratic leaders, who are worried the party will suffer as a result in the 2006 midterm elections.

Dean, a former Vermont governor, assumed the top DNC job amid questions from leading Democrats who wondered if he was suited for a job that traditionally has centered on fundraising. The latest figures are an indication those concerns were well founded.

From January through September, the Republican National Committee raised $81.5 million, with $34 million remaining in the bank. The DNC, by contrast, showed $42 million raised and $6.8 million in the bank.

"The degree to which the fundraising has not been competitive is obviously troublesome," former Rep. Vic Fazio, D-Calif., told the Post. He expressed confidence in Tom McMahon, Dean's executive director at the DNC.

One House Democratic leadership aide put it more bluntly: "There is plenty of time, but the red flashing sirens should be going off there."

The big money on the left has always come from very wealthy people such as George Soros, they haven't run out.

Snicker....

That's what happens when you depend on the birkenstock crowd to contribute money they won't share.

I think any of them would be great; however, I think the most likely scenario is probably Allen/Romney if Romney is in a position to deliver Massachusetts or Guiliani if he could deliver New York.

America clearly doesn't want Hillary in the White house, despite what the MSM try to tell us.

And we shouldn't want Condi as our nominee if we want to win.

Inflation in marijuana may force them to reevaluate their priorities.

We need to find ways ( just like last year ) to have them spend their money, but, have them waste it, to make all of their efforts worthless.
One way to defeat an enemy ( even if they are power our strong with a lot of resources ( George Washington used this tactic against the British ) is to make them spend their resources with the least effort on our side.
We need to have them spend more money in the Supreme Court battle, and in other areas were we are strong, and have them spend themselves out of existence.

"Republicans are handily winning the fundraising race by nearly a 2-to-1 margin..."

And we are going to seriously need this cash! Until they change direction on a few issues, none of it will be coming from me, however. I'll work locally and give my time, but nationally? Fuggedaboudit.

And I agree. That sucking sound you hear when near the DNC coffers? That's Hitlery, sucking all the money and all of the air out of the room.

1) 2006: No
2008: Yes

2) Slick will not help her win one Red State, and she'll probably lose NH nd OR.

3) Giuliani is going to run for president/vice president.

4) Rice will not run, she'll probably return to academia.

Yes... I agree with you, and that would be a great choice, but, we need Michael Steele in the Senate.
We need to find a well known person, a powerful person, were we won't be at a disadvantage if we lose a seat in the Senate.
In the House, we could afford to lose that seat if Mike Pence were to run for VP , but, the Senate is a closer margin.

The DNC doesn't need money, the cable TV media works for free.

The left wing base funded their 2004 I-Hate_Bush effort with borrowed money.

Think about that. It is true.

A lot of house refinancings generated cash and those idiots sent it to losers.

Now the piper is at the door to be paid.

I want to agree but actually I know NOTHING about George Allen, including what state he is from. He needs to get himself on the air somehow.

She's doing the same thing she did to Al Gore. She basically called all the big money donors and told them to hold off.

And .. if this is a sign that the dems are going to take back the House in '06 - it's not a very good sign.

Was on a forum yesterday in which a lady announced she would be voting for Hillary - couldn't stand Bill but would vote for his wife. I didn't even respond to her - she's got 4 kids who are in and out of jail. She must feel a kinship to Hillary.
