After nearly three months on strike, a few Northwest mechanics have become restless and in one instance, violent.
Airport Director Steve Warham says one striking employee used a sling shot to fire a rock through the window of a delivery truck. The trucks driver apparently thought he had been shot at, and nearly lost control.
Clinton Muskopf admits firing the shot. Tempers build up. Sometimes you get out of control, he said.
Sometimes you get caught up in the rhetoric and you make a lot of idle threats. When push comes to shove, I crossed the line, says Muskopf. Charges are pending.
Other striking employees have made threats and even been arrested for similarly unruly behavior.

See, what happened is these strikers are really mad because their employer had to declare bankruptcy. This was necessary because the previously negotiated contracts were breaking the company. Now the company said to the pilots, flight attendants and mechanics that if you all agree to work for about 30% less you can all keep your jobs and when things get better (fuel prices come down) we will begin to increase your wages and renegotiate your contracts. Well, the pilots and flight attendants said ok (the old "half a loaf thing") but the mechanics said "NO WAY, either we get our full pay or we'll walk" It was explained that if they persist in their demands or walk out then new mechanics would be hired and they would receive nothing and their jobs would be gone forever. Anyway, after much thought (NOT) they decided to walk out and as promised the airline hired new mechanics to replace them and they now have no jobs and no chance of coming back with the company.
And they are really pissed at where their decisions have led them and so are throwing rocks and generally acting like thugs because....because...some one hep me out here?

Who are the losers? It's not the ex's at the airline and it sure it'ent the union leaders. Let me think who loses, oh wait I know, it's the ones who are on strike. Everone else wins and YOu lose. Sure hope you are able within the next 100 years to make up for what you lost.

It is as I have always said. The only people who need unions are those who seek to do as little as possible while being paid as much as they can extort from the company. In the bad old days unions were necessary and a good thing. Today, with all the gov't rules and regulations, the only people benefiting from unions are the union execs. The union members are just to damn stupid to understand that.
