As reported earlier this week, Nissan is moving its HQ from California to Tennessee. Here's what went on behind the scenes.
Yeah, but it is in Tennessee. You NEED the better home for a reaon!
Maybe we can whip up some catfish sushi for him.
wonder what redneckonics sounds like with a Japanese accent?
Yeah, well, quakes don't have much to do with the weather,do they? And, knock on wood, been here for 8+ years and no quake of note...yet. Good thing I'm moving in Feb!
You will have cursed the heat or the cold and suffered miserably for it multiple times before (if) a quake takes us out here. : }
If and when it does though, you may not have FR to log onto and laugh.
That is an interesting point. Where does JimRob and company keep the servers? Is there a disaster recovery plan? If not, I would contribute to a back-up system in Idaho or something.
The most interesting fact of the story is what is not revealed -- what the total tax and incentive package they gave Nissan is worth. Something tells me it's a bundle.
Oh, don't lie to the folks. What Californians call sushi, Tennesseans call bait.
In Tennessee storms vaporize trailer parks. In LA they cause people to turn on their windshield wipers for the first time in 6 months - and realize they've dissolved in the constant sun - and there's no washer fluid left. :)
Sorry about the weather joke - Didn't mean to discourage non-Californians. Poster glorgau is right, identical weather every day (even if it's pleasant) gets boring. And the absurdity of every major network switching to breathless "stormwatch" coverage of a half-inch rainfall from a stationary front, has to be seen to be believed.
By way of balance, in the three days since CA voters turned down the last real opportunity to avoid a financial and political train wreck in the golden state - there's been a remarkable amount of rumblings from people who are deciding now is the time to get out.
In fact, this poster knows someone who recently bailed, just because of the cost of living. It's truly gotten absurd.
And is it a coincidence, that Nissan also effectively announced they're bailing, three days after that vote against every single ballot prop designed to fix the very issues which - not so long ago - led to the last governor being booted out of office?
The train could be headed for a wreck. What that means, nobody really seems to have agreed upon just yet.
And the puvlic school system doesn't indoctrinate kids to be good little socialists that hate the U.S.
And Now, specifically CA Unions, firmly established and having seized control of the state of CA are pushing foreign-owned corporations into middle America. Interesting, no?
I visited a Japanese plant in Athens TN several times and noticed that at lunch the Japaneese segregated themselves from the locals.
There was no noodles or rice or tempura in the cafeteria line so there was not total cultural segregation.
.....Wow, it's a low of 50 and a high of 70 again!.....
That sounds like Tennessee weather.
You think the Rodney King riots were bad?
Be in LA the day the welfare checks bounce
A year and a half ago my wife and I were living in retirement in Melbourne Australia (Great place).
Tax and financial issues dictated moving back to the States.
We had no ties in any spot, I'm a New Yorker who worked most of my life overseas (including 12 years in South Florida) & my wife is Originally South African.
We did a lot of internet research and came up with East Tennessee as the best place in the US to live. Moved site unseen, been here 17 months now and the decision was the right one.
No place better, for quality of life, freedom and opportunity.
Wow.... Quite a testimonial.
