U.S. accuses SIU of anti-white bias

President Bush's administration has threatened to sue Southern Illinois University, alleging its fellowship programs for minority and female students violate federal civil rights laws by discriminating against whites, men and others.

In a move Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said "just doesn't make sense," the U.S. Justice Department charged that three SIU programs that aim to increase minority enrollment in graduate school exclude whites, other minorities and males, in violation of Title VII of the federal Civil Rights Act.

"The University has engaged in a pattern or practice of intentional discrimination against whites, non-preferred minorities and males,'' says a Justice Department letter sent to the university last week and obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said "just doesn't make sense,"

Did he bat his eyes after saying this?

REPARATIONS: Chicago is the hellmouth for this movement.

In 1992 I was told by my manager that no white male would be promoted to manager that year, because they had too many white males and were afraid of a lawsuit

I left to become a contractor the next year

Well since WKU just blew it to Youngstown State, we'll be having a coach lynching instead of a playoff game this year! That ought to finish us for any Gateway honors.

Sorry to hear that. My Dawgs are up 17-7 @ Northern Iowa just before the half. 3d straight conference title. Our fortunes have been up lately. When I was at SIU, our football team was lucky to see a season near 500.

Of course, just because we are up ten at the half means little. When we played @ Northern Iowa in 2003, the Salukis had, IIRC, an 18 point lead in the 3d quarter and lost. The winner of this game gets the auto berth.

I think your school has the best nickname in the conference.

Just as I feared. The Dawgs gave up 15 unanswered points in the second half to lose 25-24. Ugh!! Northern Iowa gets the bid.

Amazing about UNI...we played them last weekend and lost in two overtimes...at home! But I don't think we'll be doing the playoffs. WKU has dropped from the #1 ranking all the way to 21. We'll be out of the polls for sure.

The only thing that gives me hope is we've red shirted just about the entire freshman class. Something nearly unheard of in division 1AA. So maybe we'll be back next season.

It's a shame SIU isn't on our basketball schedule this year. We're getting votes for pre season top 25, but those MVC teams are tough! We play two MVC'ers Bradley and the cheatin' Evansville Purple Aces--LOL!

I spent 7 years in Carbondale, 1973-80. Today, Illinois Avenue is not even a shadow of its former self.
