If you or I had been duped into making a fool of yourself/myself, (and BTW kinda destroyed our career) don't you think we'd be just a little bit angry at the dumbass that set us up with the bogus paperwork?

She's still defending the documents themselves, so that clearly indicates she was a party to their creation. Her anger is directed at those who caught her, not at the suppposed source of the bad information.

I think it's clear that Mapes was personally invested in this story and can't let it go.

I think FReepers are being played for fools.

All the attention you folks are giving that woman only motivates the Left to purchase her book, which is the only goal she has. Nobody in the MSM is going to give her a job, so she is going through this process to gen up enough book sales to hopefully never have to work again. FReepers are falling for it hook, line and sinker.

The best thing that FReepers could do, would be to ignore the woman and not post anything from her at all.

After watching Ms. Mapes with Bill O'Reilly last night, I concluded she has no judgment and no concept of reality. The only remaining question is how many other fraudulent reports did she, Dan Rather and CBS put on the air.

What has impressed me is how stupid and delusional she is. The office liberals run circles around her. I mean, that ANYONE actually trusted her judgement, even if they agreed with her? Just wow. She lacks any apparent basic reasoning skills. That she was running a news organization is just stunning...and more than a little scary.

Lt. Col. Killian's secretary said that while she thought the documents were fake, the information contained in them reflected the truth. Why wasn't more attention to her acknowledgement of the truth of the content.

Because right along with it, she said numerous other things that showed that she was was willing to be self-deceptive to hateBush. Might have had something to do with it.

Why anyone is even paying any attention to this lunatic is beyond me.

Because the media is completely around the bend with their open hatred for President Bush. They want the TANG documents to be real, the "Bush joined the Guard to dodge service in Vietnam and then didn't even bother to fulfill that obligation" story to be real, and the whole revealing of the documents as fakes to be nothing more than a right-wing smear job perpetrated against the truth-seekers in the media by Karl Rove and White House to be accepted as proven fact. That proves, in their twisted minds, that all they and the left have said about Bush, about how he's pure evil, how he lied us into war to benefit his pals at Halliburton, how he stole the 2000 and 2004 elections, how his conservative base is worse than the Taliban, is really true.

So, since Mary Mapes echoes their thinking and their opinion, they happily put her on to rant and rave and slander the administration and conservatives in general, with no rebuttal or questioning of her claims.

Even if the Dims managed majority in both chambers in 2006, I doubt there were be enough pressure to take on the long impeachment hearings, with only two years left in his administration.

Clinton was impeached with only two years left in his last term. And the dynamic would be totally different with a Bush impeachment. The press would be all-out in support of it, regardless of whether or not there was any substance to the underlying charge.

Besides, I doubt it would even reach trial in the Senate. If articles of impeachment ever did make it out of the House, I'd bet that Bush would pull a Nixon and resign, rather than put the country through an impeachment trial.

What we are seeing here is the Left's version of snake handling, faith healing religious fundamentalism. Like the extreme religious fundies, Mapes wants to believe this story so badly that she has wilfully suspended all reason.

It's the Algier Hiss syndrome. Long after every sensible person of whatever political stripe concluded he had lied, Hiss and a group of deluded free-Mumia types continued to believe he was/is innocent. They still do.

Ever notice that when a liberal writes a book that has the word "Truth" in it, they are lying their asses off?

Truth and Duty: The Press, The President, and the Privilege of Power" by Mary Mapes

The Politics of Truth: Inside the Lies that Led to War and Betrayed My Wife's CIA Identity: A Diplomat's Memoir by Joseph Wilson

Torture and Truth: America, Abu Ghraib, and the War on Terror by Mark Danner

The War On Truth: 9/11, Disinformation And The Anatomy Of Terrorism by Nafeez Mosaddeq A War Against Truth : An Intimate Account of the Invasion of Iraq by Paul William Roberts

The Truth (with jokes) by Al Franken

What amazes me is that in all her years she never considered it to be a journalistic standard to first have reasonable proof of a story before broadcasting it. It really makes me wonder if this is standard procedure in other newsrooms and other producers. Just how many of these stories have been fakes and smear jobs over the years?

I really hope CBS commissions an independent panel to go back and review all of Mapes and Rather's work, and then issue a definitive report on how many distortions and outright lies they've put out over the years. I believe CBS owes it to the public and those harmed by these two. They -- and all newsrooms -- owe it to the public to investigate the standards their other journalists, producers, and editors have in place, if any.

Many military documents from the time period would have proportional spacing.

You think so? Documents typed in an office rather than sent to a printer?

Show me an example of one.

I expect that after a few months of unsuccessfully trying to get the public to believe her wild story, we'll see a hysterical Mary Mapes being dragged off to the sanitarium in a straight-jacket.

Question to Mary: "For the sake of argument let's say you actually did have evidence that George Bush got preferential treatment in the NG during the VN war. So what? What relevance does it have now? Is it really any different than the preferential treatment Algore got in VN by virtue of his father the Senator?"

"I mean, how many soldiers took to the field without a magazine in their M16? For that matter, how many soldiers assigned as Public Affairs Officers go into the field?"

From Snopes.com:

Of the suggestion that Gore used political connections to ensure a non-combat position as an "information specialist," biographer Bill Turque wrote:

. . . there is no hard evidence that Gore's father, other government officials, or top commanders intervened on his behalf.

THERE'S NO EVIDENCE THAT THEY DIDN'T! IS THERE?

Even if the documents had been real (or even forged more successfully so that we would not have been able to debunk them), this story would not have sunk George W. Bush. But she obviously thinks it would have.

Yep. Let's stipulate that Dubya's folks used pull to get him into the National Guard instead of Vietnam. So? Everybody knows that thousands of people of all political persuasions did the same, and tens of thousands of others would have if they'd only had the right connections. Nobody cares, unless they're looking for an excuse to bolster a pre-existing antipathy.

It makes me giddy with joy. Mapes is to the MSM what Howie Dean is to the Dims. Every time she opens her mouth the Media's credibility drops another point or two. Give her a daily show. Howie too. Better yet, MSNBC ought to have a new morning show with Mary, Howie and Cindy (Sheehan). I'd give it a month before mobs were dragging Dems and 'journalists' out in the street and ... well, you know.
