Bob Casey Leads Rick Santorum By 20 Points, Says Rasmussen Poll

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey shows that Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum is continuing to lose ground in his battle for re-election. Santorum trails Democrat Bob Casey, Jr by twenty percentage points, 54% to 34%.

I love it. Everytime Santorum burps he's going to get hammered. Every senator whether it's Bunning or Perry or whomever is going to to do something hackish for some constituent some time in his career. Are they called on it? Rarely. Now, have the free reports ended from the National Weather Service?

Santorum is about as conservative a senator as one can hope for.

I don't agree that the battle is lost yet, but I do wholeheartedly agree that this President hasn't learned that the RATS don't play nice. He still seems to think he can still bring them over to his side.

That's a nice sentiment, but Santorum is not well-liked by his fellow Senators. Former colleague Bob Kerrey once asked "Is Santorum Latin for ***hole?" It won't happen.

True enough, but the fact that Santorum generates no enthusism among conservatives is his own fault. Santorum backed Specter when he could have been defeated by Toomey(as did Bush). We will watch that disasterous payback before Santorum's election. I think Santorum also participated in the choice of Frist as Senate leader---incredibly weak choice.

I agree with what you say. The Casey name is magic in PA -- I think that under the best of circumstances, Santorum could not defeat him and could not have defeated him the previous two times he won had Casey been the nominee. With Casey being a pro-life, pro-gun Rat, he neutralizes some of Rick's biggest issues. I agree that Santorum would do better to take an Administration slot and not even allow himself to be defeated by Casey. I do think, though, that Swann could beat Rendell.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of some on here, I seriously doubt Santorum can win this one. Yes, a year is a long time, but his popularity is at an all time low in the state, and the Casey name still carries a lot of weight.

The wrath of people unwilling to accept reality? Santorum could cure cancer between now and next year and would still lose this race. The question at this point isn't who is going to win but whether Santorum will bother fighting all the way through to Election Day.

The state is trending Dem, true, but that's not what kills him. The true nail in Santorum's coffin is that he won't even be able to get 75% of the Republican vote.
