Obviously, much of the merchandise that can be used to celebrate "holiday" can also be used to celebrate Christmas. As such, Christmas isn't a "second class" anything, but merely a logical subgroup.

The Wal-Mart down the road has it's Holiday stuff out already. I don't really care if they do or do not. My family does. Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

"To keep up with its critics, Wal-Mart “has to run a campaign,” said Robert McAdam, a former political strategist at the Tobacco Institute who now oversees Wal-Mart’s corporate communications. “It’s simply nonsense for us to let some of these attacks go without a response.”

The Republicans could learn a thing or two from Wal-Mart.

I agree. Our local Wal-Mart supercenter started putting up the Christmas stuff on Labor Day. They've got more Christmas stuff up now than I have ever seen. This article is pure anti-Wal Mart B.S.

If you tell me the name of one retailer(besides a Christian bookstore) that promotes embraces Christmas, I'll do my shopping there. I don't think wal-mart is alone.

No, they shouldn't. Neither should the dems. I don't want my pols sold to me like Made In China merchandise.

So, then, if Christmas is a subgroup of the "generic" holiday, why is Kwanzaa and Hanukkah not also part of the generic "holiday"?

You don't think the Republicans should fight back against lies spread by the Democrats? Wouldn't want you managing my campaign.

I am surprised to find FReepers who agree with the pc junk Walmart has fallen for.

I think it is YOU who has fallen for the PC Hate of Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart did not rename products like Christmas Trees, or Christmas Bouquets into Holiday Trees or Holiday Bouquets. Those items that traditionally use the Christmas title still have it.

Wal-Mart did not bend to PC. You over-reacted due to some personal hatred of Wal-Mart.

"Why would they just not take you to a page called "Christmas" or to the items that fit your specific search request?"

Because there are other 'holiday' items on there, einstein, like the "Personalized Star of David Glass Platter" for $28.76

Get a grip. They created a holiday page. Searching for "christmas" brings you to that page. THE VERY NEXT LINE after "We've brought you to our "Holiday " page based on your search." offers you an option to to search for all the items.

So that 1/4" space between those two lines offends you somehow???

Oh, btw, if you search for the term "music", it BRINGS YOU TO A SPECIAL MUSIC PAGE!!!

http://www.walmart.com/music?redirect_query=music

Gee, why would they do that? Maybe because they have so many items that match the term 'music', it's smarter to make a splash page just for it! And what do we see on that page???

"We've brought you to our "Music" page based on your search.

Not what you're looking for? View a list of items that match your search for "music"."

Gee, the SAME EXACT THING it says for the "holiday" page! THEY MUST HATE MUSIC, TOO!!!

Dangit, they did the same thing for MOVIES!!!

http://www.walmart.com/movies?redirect_query=movies

ACK!!! THE HORROR!!!!!

Now do you see how ridiculous trying to hang your hat on this was? You didn't even bother to test it out with other popular search terms. But I did - and it shows all they did is create a special splash page like they've probably done for dozens of terms - and they're pretty much using the same template out of a database.

Almost your entire sad little argument - *poof* - gone in a cloud of smoke because all they're doing is using the same search word keyed splash page like they do for other POPULAR search terms.

So I guess the real scandal here is that they don't do the same for "chanukah" or "kwanzaa". Maybe you can call the ADL and the NAACP and widen the boycott - walmart must not consider them real "holidays"!!!!

---I bow to your marketing and debating skills. They are obviously too great for a mere fool as myself.---

Well, you've shown yourself to be clueless in marketing, and less than honest in debating.

"The fact remains: Christmas is considered second class search at Walmart "

It's only a "fact" to you and other people who choose to be offended. The fact is that it is the ONLY holiday keyed to take you to the special holiday page. That would tell most people that they're making a special effort just for christmas, and they've forgotten the two other 'holidays' on their web site.

Probably because there is limited specific merchandise geared to those relatively small groups. A door wreath, for instance, could be used by a Jewish or black family. A Menorah is likely to only be used by a Jewish family.

Retail search engines only have one purpose: to move merchandise. That's it. No political agenda.

What's more, it would be foolish to promote a political agenda via a search on a retail website. What? Someone is suddenly going to be steered to a Kwanzaa item and become black?

I like Walmart--I own their stock--my parents owned their stock. But they are demeaning Christmas as a holiday in order to satisfy the policial correctness movement.

...as if anyone shops at Wal-Mart for its smalltown homey atmosphere. You know, chat with the stockboy about the local high school football team, trade barbs with the soda jerk, talk a little friendly politics the hardware clerk...

Give me a break. If Americans actually gave a crap about having friendly, respectful store clerks that wish you Merry Christmas and know your name and (dare I say it) care about what's important to you, the entire concept of Wal-Mart would've been an absolute no-go. Instead, we know the opposite to be true, as it is the most popular company on the planet!

I'm not saying it's good, I'm just point out reality. We traded friendly merchant faces wishing us Merry Christmas decades ago for butt-cheap prices...and did it gladly.

No, you wouldn't want me managing your campaign. My strategy would be:

No commercials
No Negatives
Answer all questions truthfully and without spin.
Inflict a punch in the nose on those who lied whether they be pols or members of the press.
