A Catholic advocacy group has launched a national boycott against Wal-Mart, claiming the world's No. 1 retailer has in effect "banned" Christmas, while promoting other seasonal holidays such as Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.
But Wal-Mart tells WorldNetDaily it has "absolutely not" banned Christmas, but is just "trying to serve all our customers for the holiday season."

It is a corporation for crying out loud, not someone running for office. Sheesh.
Walmart is convenient for me and there prices are excellent. Do I only shop there? Of course not. But I have no intention of not shopping there just to make the perpetually offended happy.
WalMart is despised by the left and they will do anything to bring them down, I am saddened by how many so-called conservatives have taken the bait, along with the hook, line, and sinker and endeavor to perpetuate the lies and propaganda.
The problem I think is that Wal-Mart execs bought into the wrong diagnosis. They didn't have loses because of a boycott by the left. More likely, it was because the left infiltrated their staff, and Wal-Mart helped them do it with pc policies. Then, these lefties set out to treat the customers badly. I had a Wal-Mart cashier quiz me about stuff -- seriously -- and I innocently mentioned a Christian college we had visited over the weekend. SHE WENT ON A VERBAL RAMPAGE AGAINST THE COLLEGE AND CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIANS. I was very mad, but I just took it.
That, of course, is the problem...Christmas is NOT a generic holiday. They can market to any group they want, but if they're going to attempt to redefine a Christian holiday as a generic one they should not be surprised if some Christians find that offensive.
Okay it is Karl Rove's and Haliburton's fault/great evil plan.
The last time I was there was Labor Day weekend, for back-to-school shopping. My husband does more shopping there than I do, only because he passes it on his way home from work everyday and I really don't like shopping anywhere all that much :)
I never understood this weird need to be offended by company policies. Wal-Mart's board of directors could all be practicing satanists, for all I care.

I'm laying odds that sometime after Dec 26 the Holiday section becomes obsessed with Valentines Day, then after VD Mothers Day, etc etc. All department stores have a seasonal section where whatever the upcoming big commerce holiday or non-holiday big event (like back to school) is displayed. Looking at the organization of the website it seems like they're trying to do the same thing there as in the store.
The first thing I saw on entering the "Holiday" section of my local WalMart yesterday was a 3ft. tall lighted Nativity scene.
To me, american retail seems to have morphed into one gigantic store. All stores are more or less the same, these days.
I guess 50 years or so of highly organized research into how best to sell stuff to the American consumer has led to this.
I suppose small-store character has its charm, but who really needs charm when they're buying toilet paper?
On another note, I also like Starbucks and couldn't care less that it's run by a bunch of lefties.

I don't like Starbucks - but it has nothing to do with who runs it - I just don't like their product :)
I live in a very rural area and there are very few major chain retailers, so I do still do a lot of shopping in small town mom & pop type stores. I like having such choices.
I found out last night that Lowe's is going to build a store behind the Walmart, which is great. As much as I love the local harware/lumberyard, there are just some things that a Lowe's or Home Depot are better suited. Another reason it's great is it will be only 15 miles away, currently I have to go 60 miles to get to a Lowe's or Home Depot.

You may be correct. The other possibility is Wal Mart probably refused to donate to this group, and so suddenly Wal Mart hates Christmas.
Last month Walmart probably had as much Christmas merchandise as they did fall/halloween stuff. My wife went to buy some fall stuff and bought some Christmas stuff that was there and on sale.
So much for anyone needing to go to China-Mart for "Christmas" items. I mean, they have declared that they don't have any.
