A Catholic advocacy group has launched a national boycott against Wal-Mart, claiming the world's No. 1 retailer has in effect "banned" Christmas, while promoting other seasonal holidays such as Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.
But Wal-Mart tells WorldNetDaily it has "absolutely not" banned Christmas, but is just "trying to serve all our customers for the holiday season."

Good, now I will have a larger selection to choose from and less bodies to hinder my shopping!
I think Mr. Donohue misses the point on this one. There are plenty of federal holidays when Wal-Mart does not close. Christmas is the only holiday formally "observed" by Wal-Mart closing for the day, it appears. I read the article, and I guess I am in the camp that just doesn't see the outrage. I find both the store and website useful (the store is one of few that has carts that will hold all my kids, for one thing). I am planning on doing some of my other Christmas shopping at Sears, though... I still remember the posting here about Sears' exemplary record in supporting their reservist employees called up for military service. Definitely that story has encouraged me to shop there more. Now if we could only find more things made in the USA!
No one is stopping you from shopping at Wal-Mart, or from celebrating their new pc policies.
I am somehow NOT surprised that WORLD NUT DAILY has jumped on this one...
and Wal Mart HASN'T banned Christmas....give me a friggin break.
You're funny, Dave!!!!!
I call Barbara Streisand on this. It ain't even Turkey Day yet and my local Wally World is plasterd with "Merry Christmas". Sure, there's plenty of "Happy Chunnukkah", "Feliz Navidad" and "Phat Kwanzaa", whatever those may be. :)
As an affirmed member of the Sam's Club Cult, I appreciate their holiday offerings. They've got a great selection of wrapping paper, bows and unusual items I normally wouldn't bother with. I don't shop at Wal-mart (I love my local Meijer), but Sam's carries a big selection of Christmas and Christian books. There's always at least one Nativity set, too. Since they don't bother with banners and other expensive inside advertising, the "happy holidays" argument doesn't apply.
And only three items for festivus.
Judging from post 11, I would say YES twntaipan is TRYING AS HARD AS POSSIBLE to be offended at ANYTHING.

I'm with you - I just don't get all the outrage these threads are generating.
As has been pointed out numerous times, it is smart webpage designing. I would venture to guess more people would enter the word Christmas into the search engine than anything else and thus it makes sense to bring that to a specific page for narrowing the search.
If you put a gun to my head, I would not be able to remember what signes Wal-Mart/Target etc. put up for Christmas. They could have been celebrating Baal, for all I know.
But maybe I'm weird. I go to Wal-Mart looking for toothpaste, rather than something to take offense at.
Amazing how these Wal Mart Haters try lie to us.
Blather, Mapes and Michael Moore can't get by with it, and the Wal Mart Haters will not get by with it.
This past weekend my wife bought some Christmas cards, decorations, cds and other Christmas stuff for our home, family and friends from the evil Walmart. She didn't have to search very hard as many of the purchases were available by the front entrance.
The War Room is a VERY BAD idea. Sam Walton's Wal-Mart had my support. The new War Room Wal-Mart is unrecognizable to me.
You can't beat them on price for laundry detergent either :)

Bush's Fault? :)
I personally thought it was the Perfect Rovian Plan set in motion :)
To be honest, I actually can't remember the last time I went to Wal-Mart. There isn't one all that close to me.
I never understood this weird need to be offended by company policies. Wal-Mart's board of directors could all be practicing satanists, for all I care. In my opinion, the only thing I expect from corporations is that they follow the law and give me the lowest price possible on whatever widget they are selling me.
People who have time to worry whether Wal-Mart uses the word "Christmas" on its website have too much time on their hands.
