House GOP leaders have decided to drop an Arctic oil drilling proposal from a budget bill.

This is outrageous. Bunch of spinless nobodies who will hurt Bush. Can't believe those wet noodles did this.

If that is the case than I don't understand the complaints about voting independent. I thought strategically that voting independent (which would be the same for write-in) was taboo. I am not aware of any write-in being elected to our Congress or as President. Who are you referring to?
No we're not. How many friggen times can you say I told you so to people who have a glazed look on their faces?
We were speaking of the House, correct? Which means we are speaking of congressional districts, not overall states. In which Republicans have the edge even in "blue" states.
I resent the implication I'm a purist. My posting history indicates otherwise.
The REALITY is that conservatives aren't getting their fair "cut" of this compromise with the RINO's for a working Majority. We're getting screwed. GOP members are talking of tax hikes, no ANWR, GOP voting for a bill to protect terrorists, it's an uphill battle to get a GOOD judge on the Supreme Court, no fixes to social security....etc...we've gotten a few bones like limited tort reform.
For all the heavy lifting CONSERVATIVES do to elect Republicans of all ideological stripes, the sacrifice of time and money so far isn't worth it.
The REALITY is that if Reps don't shape up soon, look to what happened to 41 in '92 to occur to the GOP in '06. Do I want that to happen? NO. If I did I wouldn't be screaming for the GOP to shape up.
I will NOT deny the obvious truth, though, that conservatives feel shafted and a brewing trouble is on horizon for the GOP in '06 that they have brought on themselves.
It's a lot worse now. I don't think we can fix it without a hay bailer! We're going to need automation if we going to have a chance.

House GOP makes concession on Arctic drilling
WASHINGTON - House Republican leaders late Wednesday abandoned an attempt to push through a hotly contested plan to open an Alaskan wildlife refuge to oil drilling, fearing it would jeopardize approval of a sweeping budget bill Thursday.
They also dropped from the budget document plans to allow states to authorize oil and gas drilling off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts — regions currently under a drilling moratorium.
The actions were a stunning setback for those who have tried for years to open a coastal strip of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to oil development, and a victory for environmentalists who have lobbied hard against the drilling provisions. President Bush has made drilling in the Alaska refuge one of his top energy priorities.
The House Rules Committee formalized the change late Wednesday when it issued the terms of the debate when the House takes up the budget package on Thursday.
The decision to drop the the ANWR drilling language came after GOP moderates said they would oppose the budget if it was kept in the bill. The offshore drilling provision was also viewed as too contentious and a threat to the bill, especially in the Senate.
Last week, the Senate included ANWR drilling in its version of the budget, so the matter will have to be thrashed out in negotiations between the Senate and House, if the budget is approved by the House.
Protection of the Alaska refuge from oil companies has been championed by environmentalists for years. The House repeatedly has approved drilling in the refuge as part of broad energy legislation, only to see their effort blocked each time by the threat of a filibuster in the Senate.
The budget bill is immune from filibuster, but drilling proponents suddenly found it hard to get the measure accepted by a majority of the House.
That’s because Democrats heartily oppose the overall budget bill, giving House GOP opponents of drilling in the Arctic enough leverage to have the matter killed.

The GOP has had no trouble twisting arms for what they want passed in the House. Including recently CAFTA. The House is easier to bring in line than the Senate. Which suggests to me that the House has dropped the ball majorly here in absence of Delay.
They played that game in 2004. 2-3 more seats and judges would be through. Then we get the damn Gang of Fourteen. Some judges still hung up filibustered. I trust maybe a handful of people in D.C. now, at most, the vast majority have broken Faith and deserve what comes.
