Rep. Sue Myrick (R-N.C.) let slip a bombshell disclosure at a news conference today to announce a bill targeting states that allow illegal aliens to get drivers licenses.
During the Q&A with reporters, Myrick gave as a reason for proposing the bill the recent capture of three al Qaeda terrorists at the U.S.-Mexico border.
A check of Google News turned up no references to this incident, yet Myrick stated this was a 'given fact.'
No reporter asked her about this revelation, but it was noted at the end of a Charlotte Observer article by Tim Funk.
Two Representatives from North Carolina, Virginia Foxx (R) and Patrick McHenry (R) stood with Myrick at the press conference. Neither commented on her matter of fact statement.
Rep. Myrick's remarks can be heard online at her Congressional Website here. the statement is made at about 8:45 into the press conference.
A call placed to Myrick's office in D.C. was not answered as the office is closed for the evening.
Transcript:
"Our main concern is, who's in our state? I mean this is a critical issue today. I mean they just arrested down on the border, what a couple of weeks ago, three al Qaeda members who came across from Mexico into the United States. I mean that's a given fact. They were holding them in the jail down there."
I think I may have learned the general area where this arrest took place. I made calls to several of the border patrol public affairs offices and the response I got at the McAllen sector was surprising. After being referred to a supervisor, I was asked some questions and then given a "I can't comment on that." It was then suggested that he could refer me to someone even higher up if I wanted to pursue it.
The whole story is available at my blog, along with some interesting parallels to a case from last year that took place in the same area. Based on the conversations I had yesterday, I'm definitely of the opinion that this really happened and that it has probably happened before.
" I would think it better if we had no mosques. It's clear that they are staging areas for conquest."
I agree. I have to mention here that I am Jewish and love Israel and am not exactly "unbiased". But what you say is true.
For now, however, I do not believe we can do too much in that direction. One thing we can do is help people, like Emerson, a prominent American revealer of Islamacists, who is currently suffering a major legal attack from CAIR, easing the American legal system to try to intimidate those who would pull the cover off the American Islamist movement. I'm going to take a look at the Web right now and see what's going on.
YOu can believe that if you want.
I hope you noticed the post earlier in the thread wherein the Congresswoman is backtracking on her statement. It was, as I initially remarked, of doubtful truth.
There are much easier and destructive things they could attack which I will not go into in public. Such an attack would be destructive but on the second or third level of destructiveness. Certainly in terms of loss of life third level.
PING
How destrucive is not being able to heat your home this winter?
The Border Patrol is part of the Department of Homeland Security, in the same sub department as Customs (They've integrated their air components already, called CBP Air). Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Transportation Security (TSA) are also part of DHS.
Homeland Security now theoretically runs just about everything. What I meant is that we need to deal with terrorists coming over our borders and also with terrorists already in place.
BTTT
If they are Al Qaeda they need to be heavily interragated. We need a new law that lets us do this with them and them only.
Thanks to both of you for the pings, don't forget all the chinese who cross the border, I was watching reports of the chinese on the border in 1999.......
But no one was interested.
The Timberline cam is working fine. thanks for those links, I'm bookmarking them.
It would take massive coordinated attacks by dozens, if not hundreds, of terrorists to achieve such a result. And the fact remains that AQ wants massive death rather than infrastructure destruction to flow from its actions.

Did you hear Hannity's show yesterday? He interviewed another congressman, John Culbertson of Texas, who absolutely confirmed Myrick's story of Al Qaeda crossing the porous Mexican border.
