This one should be interesting to follow. You'd like to think that since he was found innocent and finally released from prison (on DNA evidence, I think) that they'd leave him alone, but maybe he feels invincible now? Maybe prison messed him up but bad? I know it would me, were I wrongfully accused and lost nearly two decades of my life. (Not justifying it if he did commit this crime, of course!)

While I am not claiming that this particular man was actually guilty or that DNA evidence shouldn't be used, it's important to point out that some small percentage of people are actually "chimeras" or a fusion of two non-idendical twins before birth and the DNA of some of their organs, sperm, or eggs may not match the DNA in their blood, hair, or elsewhere on their body. At least two women were discovered to be chimeras after DNA tests determined that they were not the mother of the children that they gave birth to. This is a really, really, really long shot and there certainly are innocent people convicted of rape. It's simply a warning that DNA evidence is not necessarily 100% proof of innocence. More like 99.99999% proof.

Or maybe it's just payback for the lawsuit.

"Avery sued Manitowoc County and its former sheriff and district attorney for $36 million over his wrongful conviction"

Finding the car in their junkyard wasn't a plus for him, and notice how he keeps mentioning everyone else's reaction - if it were me and I'd really spent 18 years in the pokey for nothing, and hadn't done anything in this case either, I'd be seething. Not saying things like:

"It's a headache. Everybody's worried about it. They can't sleep, they're so worried"

"Everybody's taking it pretty rough," Avery said. "My mother breaks down. My brother broke down."

He killed her.

Wisconsin seems to be splattered all over FR lately!

I'm firmly on the fence on this story. I have absolutely no inkling about his guilt or innocence and will be watching it all unfold.

Well, kids. It appears they took Steven Avery into custody this afternoon. Not that it proves anything, but it thickens the plot in this little novella:

Steven Avery taken into custody (2:13 p.m.)
By Carrie Antlfinger - The Associated Press

MISHICOT, WI — Law enforcement officers investigating the disappearance of a woman took into custody a man who served 18 years in prison for a rape he did not commit, the man’s attorney told The Associated Press.

Officers took Steven Avery into custody because of a weapon, attorney Walt Kelly said. He did not think the weapon was related to the disappearance of Teresa Halbach, whose sport utility vehicle was found at a salvage yard owned by Avery’s family near Mishicot.

Kelly said he feared officers were taking Avery into custody so they could interview him about the missing woman case.

“I fear ... that they will try to use his words against him,” Kelly said.

How stupid would he have to be to kill the woman, leave her body (maybe her body) and her car, definitely her car, in the place where he worked and lived?

It would be very strange indeed if he was released from prison on DNA evidence, and then sent to prison on DNA evidence.

If he is found guilty of the crime, does that shoot down the $36 million law suit?

Avery was convicted of a 1985 sexual assault and exonerated by DNA evidence 18 years later.

***************

Interesting story. There is one case that I know of that involved DNA fraud by a department chemist.

Truth in justice.

If they do find the body on the property, I don't know how anyone could not believe he is guilty.

Avery sued Manitowoc County and its former sheriff and district attorney for $36 million over his wrongful conviction, and he has said he fears someone is trying to set him up as a suspect in Halbach's disappearance.

Heck of a motive for local LE and an injustice system that has already proven themselves to be corrupt.

Action 2 News has learned Calumet County Sheriff Jerry Pagel told Teresa Halbach's family a search for her is not needed today. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced Highway 147 -- which had been closed for the search effort -- will reopen after 3 p.m.

Halbach, 25, from Calumet County, has been missing for ten days.

The corner of county highways Y and Q remained blocked off Thursday. Overnight, police blocked off even more of Highway 147 as they continued to search for clues in the disappearance.

Investigators refocused their efforts on the Avery Auto Salvage property Thusrday. That's where Halbach was last seen on October 31, and where her sport utility vehicle was found last Saturday.

An affidavit filed in Calumet County court Thursday morning shows investigators believe someone was trying to conceal Halbach's vehicle. It says investigators found tree branches covering her vehicle and some vehicle parts placed alongside the SUV.

The affidavit also says Halbach is the victim of a crime including but not limited to homicide, sexual assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment, and theft.

Wednesday Sheriff Pagel said they found evidence "human in nature."

We expect to get more information about the evidence and an update on the investigation during a news conference at 1:30 p.m. Action 2 News will carry that news conference live on WBAY-TV 2.

Just ask for a lie detector test, Avery.

I know, I know, no one here would.

I would as fast as I could if I were innocent.

"It's a headache. Everybody's worried about it. They can't sleep, they're so worried," Steve Avery said of himself and his large family, who live in Manitowoc County, mostly in the Two Rivers area.

Lying, guilty b--tard!!
