Nailed It!

This ping list is not author-specific for articles I'd like to share. Some for the perfect moral clarity, some for provocative thoughts; or simply interesting articles I'd hate to miss myself. (I don't have to agree with the author all 100% to feel the need to share an article.) I will try not to abuse the ping list and not to annoy you too much, but on some days there is more of the good stuff that is worthy of attention. You can see the list of articles I pinged to lately  on  my page.
You are welcome in or out, just freepmail me (and note which PING list you are talking about). Besides this one, I keep 2 separate PING lists for my favorite authors Victor Davis Hanson and Orson Scott Card.

>>>>Do not admit too many immigrants from a single source. Disperse the immigrants into the general population—avoid ghettoes. Encourage a single language. And remind newcomers that admission into your country is a gift, not a right, and the gift carries with it certain obligations born of gratitude.

This should be done. This historian has actually provided a useful set of ideas. So rare from an acedemic discipline that has been devolving into the art form of the enlightened polemic.

Do not admit too many from one place! Hmmmmm!

Encourage a single language. Hmmmmm!

I wonder if there is any country other then France that can use this advise.

Adios!

5) America was not really so diverse as we now remember. Until the mid-20th Century, immigration to America occurred from a very restricted pool of nations. For all our celebration of the great melting pot, America was mostly melting European peoples in that pot. These peoples shared a great deal of cultural inheritance before ever setting foot in America. The gaps we formerly needed to bridge were thus relatively small. Religious differences consisted primarily of differences in various Christian sects. As much as it sometimes hurts to say it, a Frenchman and an American have most things in common, as do most other European nationalities.

Interesting point, but if one looks at the wealthiest ethnic groups in America by per capita income, one will see that several of them are nonEuropean (Persians, East Indians, Armenians, Koreans). East Indian immigrants and upper Class South Americans (the latter of whom are usually of European ancestry, despite being classified as "minorities") adapt better to American culture, from my obeservation, than lower class immigrants from Russia, for example.

Social class and education are factors not considered in the article.

Begin by choosing an immigrant pool as much like your existing culture as feasible.

In other words, stop the "diversity" lottery now, and don't admit any more muslims. Since literally a billion people want to live in the United States, we have no reason to import potential trouble.

Two diametrically opposed cultures can never live together in peace. Islam will indeed have to be declared incompatible with western societies.

Americans used to subscribe to this and often quoted it saying "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

France should tell all its immigrants that if you want to be French, you are welcome and we embrace you. Get rid of that cloth on your head and start learning and speaking French. Get a job and contribute to our economy. Better yourself and you will better France.

They should add, "If you do not want to be one of us, or if you do not want to be here, leave. Go where you want to be and be like the people you admire."

Last point they should make, "Our culture is as old as yours. We expelled you once before, because you made trouble, killed us, and wanted us to change to become like you. We didn't and we won't. You have to change or we will expell you again."

"This is, however, among the dumbest combination of observations I have ever encountered, since America’s successful history of assimilation has absolutely nothing to do with any major government action on our part."

Other than that Civil War thing, and those Amendments to the Constitution, and the various Civil Rights acts, and prosecutions of discrimination, and affirmative action...
