Have You Heard About the Massey Lies?
Rush Limbaugh ^ | November 9, 2005 | Rush Limbaugh

RUSH: There was another black operation that was outed sometime within the past two years. I forget. It might have been during the '04 campaign year, sometime last year, but it was outed by Senators Rockefeller, Durbin and Levin -- and they did this in a budget debate. They outed a new black op satellite, spy satellite program that had been around since I think the 1990s, and they did this during the course of conducting debates, intelligence debates and budget debates, and they said they simply were not going to fund this, not going to pay for this, it's unnecessary, it's totally worthless. This was not a CIA leak, this was members of the intelligence committee in the US Senate on the Democrat side leaking things. So my only point, there are enemies of this country within the country doing their best to undermine the agenda of this country. When I say "enemies," let me qualify it, because some of them may well think of themselves as patriots. You know, we do have these vast disagreements about how to manage our affairs in this country, political disagreements. We have massive disagreements over what the right foreign policy is. It could well be these people think of themselves as just as patriotic as anybody else does, and they're going to whatever length they can to stop who they think is the problem, which would be Bush. But look at what they're compromising. It was December 2004 that the stealth satellite program was revealed, the black-op stealth satellite program was revealed, so there are a lot of these things.

A lot of these things end up in the newspaper, like the Plame-Wilson story and now the black sites story last Wednesday in the Washington Post, which Bill Frist and Denny Hastert have ordered a bipartisan, bicameral investigation of that CIA leak. Oh, I have to apologize to General Vallely. I've been mispronouncing his name. Major General Paul Vallely, I've been calling him, because I don't listen to television, folks. I am deaf. I have my cochlear implant, and listening to television sometimes is not a pleasant experience. Depends on the room I'm in, what kind of acoustics. Sometimes it's just very, very irritating. So I watch television with closed-captioning, and if I see a name that I'm unsure of the pronunciation, then I'll ask somebody before I come to the program. If something looks like it's easily pronounced and Vallely's name with two L's in the middle of the word looks like it would be Vallely, then I didn't ask. I am now told he pronounces his name Vallely. So I apologize to Major General Paul Vallely, the screw-up of his name not intentionally done.

There have been quite a few newspaper stories and media counts of an Iraq vet by the name of Jimmy Massey. Does the name ring a bell? Jimmy Massey has been seeking audiences wherever he can find them describing all of the atrocities that he as a soldier saw in Iraq. He said that he worked with the Marines in Iraq. It has been discovered that he lied about it all. He lied and made it all up. And his story now is that he was told to say this by others.

So make no mistake about it that there is a coordinated effort at the highest levels of who knows where to undermine the war on terror and the war on Iraq because the primary goal is to undermine and eventually impeach George W. Bush. That is the focus. That's why all this is going on, and they are now even corrupting soldiers coming back and saying, "We want you to go out and say this, go out and say that." Story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch today with one of the funniest headlines I have ever seen about Jimmy Massey. In fact, before I give you the headline, let me read you the lead of the story: "Media outlets throughout the world have reported Jimmy Massey's claims of war crimes frequently without ever seeking to verify them. For instance, no one ever called any of the five journalists who were embedded with Massey's battalion to ask him or her about his claims. The AP, which serves more than 8,500 newspaper and radio televisions worldwide wrote three stories about Jimmy Massey, including an interview with him in October about his new book, but none of the AP reporters ever called Ravi Nessman, an Associated Press reporter who was embedded with Massey's unit. Nessman wrote more than 30 stories about the unit from the beginning of the war until April 15th after Baghdad had fallen.

"Jack Spokes, a spokesman for the AP, said he didn't know why reporters didn't talk to Nessman nor could he explain why the AP ran stories without seeking a response from the Marine Corps. The organization also refused to allow Nessman to be interviewed for the story. Some media did seek comment from the Marine Corps. We're told that an investigation of Massey's accusations had found them baseless. Still, those news outlets printed Massey's claims without any evidence other than the word of Massey who had been released from service because of depression and posttraumatic stress disorder." What do you think the headline of this story is? The headline of the story in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch today, written by Ron Harris -- and he probably didn't write the headline -- but the headline is: "Why Did the Press Swallow Massey's Stories?" So here you have a story in the press, in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, asking: Why did the press swallow his story? They have to ask? John Kerry lied about atrocities; look where it got him. John Kerry made up all kinds of things about atrocities; it got him the Democratic Party presidential nomination. Who knows what they promised this Massey guy. You can be the next Paul what's-his-name in Ohio! What's this clown's name? You can be the next Paul Hackett, Mr. Massey. Just go out and A, B, C, and D. We'll guarantee you, you will not be challenged.

Why? For the press itself to ask: Why did the press swallow Massey's stories? Because it fit the template! You wanted to believe it, just like Dan Rather wanted to believe Bill Burkett's documents were not forged, that they were genuine -- and why did you want to believe it? Because you hate George W. Bush. Admit it! You have a personal hatred and rage for this man that knows no bounds. You are obsessed. So you will throw all journalistic pretense out the window. When somebody comes along and says what you already think is true, and he's wearing a uniform, that's all the credibility you need -- and better that he's got posttraumatic stress disorder! "Look what Bush's war did to poor Jimmy Massey, and Jimmy Massey is trying to alert the world to what happened." Jimmy Massey was lying, and the press didn't give a rat's ass. Pardon my French, but I want it made clear. They didn't give a diddly-squat, because the news today is not what is happening. It's what they want to happen. This story continues. There's a subhead: Why would we have run this story? "'That Massey wasn't telling the truth should have become obvious the more he told his story,' said Phillip Dixon, the former managed editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer and currently the chairman of the Howard University Department of Journalism. Dixon examined dozens of newspaper articles in which Massey told the atrocities that Marines allegedly committed in Iraq. Dixon, who had been an editor at the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times, said, 'He couldn't keep his story straight. First it was a four-year-old girl with a bullet hole in her head, then it was a six-year-old girl.' Editors at some papers looked back at the Massey articles and are surprised that they ran them without examining whether the claims were true or without ever asking the Marine Corps about them." What's the press onto now? They've got it totally 180 degrees out of focus. Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame because they wanted Joe Wilson to be a truth-teller. They wanted Cindy Sheehan to be angelic, and prophetic. They wanted Bill Burkett to have the goods. They wanted the Jersey Girl to have goods. Look who they throw in with. This poor Jimmy Massey. Who knows who exploited this guy and put the stories and ideas in his head. That's what he's saying anyway, which takes us to the other CIA leak story last Wednesday in the Washington Post. So we get a leak about these black sites. Well, how do we know it's true? That's what part of the investigation is going to determine. Is it true? It's war out there, folks. It is war inside our own borders, and inside the Beltway.

It is not an accident that one of the most useful categories that I use to save stories and threads is a computer folder labeled "Useful Idiots". The other growing one is labeled "Treason".

Massey is not worth a single line of print. His lies, deceit and damaging fabrications have earned him the hatred of Marines and other military everywhere.

Burn in hell with the Islamic murderers you seek to help Massey.

sorry to change the subject... how is Vallely pronounced?

Emphasis is on the first syllable - VAL leh lee. I've heard a few people mispronounce it with the the accent on the second - vul LEL lee.

" ... Massey was just one more poor dumb nit to carry their water."

"poor dumb nit"? What the heck is that suppose to mean? Like some poor dumb animal?

We continue to feed and house these decrepit "animals" while they growl and bite us?

From the article ...

"Jack Spokes, a spokesman for the AP, said he didn't know why reporters didn't talk to Nessman nor could he explain why the AP ran stories without seeking a response from the Marine Corps."

Well, golly gee whiz ... I can't figure it out either.

Can I go back and put my head under the sand now?

Changing the subject slightly, I think I remember John Kerry outed a CI agent on the Senate floor didn't he? Where is the outrage and where are the investigations? Come on Republicans, do what you are elected to do.. someone besides Democrats can hold investigations.(And you aren't doing anything else!)

Forget the RNC. We need to be the ones spreading this word to everyone with whom we engage in conversation about the state of the country. We need to get the facts, then when someone repeats the lies they've heard on the nightly news or read in the papers, we can refute it with FACTS and quote the news sources. Don't say you heard it on Rush, because many will disregard him as a right wing bombast. Pay attention to the news sources that Rush uses and mention THOSE, like the St. Louis Post Dispatch, for example.

We shouldn't be sitting out here thinking the RNC or the White House or any politician is going to come to the rescue because many people don't listen to them. They do, however, listen to the news and read the papers, so we need to be on the ground, facts ready, and be willing to educated folks about what is really going on.

And his [Massey's] story now is that he was told to say this by others.

So, the AP is running with this story--the one where Massey is naming names as to who told him to do it--with no need to check 'facts', right?

Don't want to disagree with you, per se, but another thought. Wouldn't these folks love to have a full-out, knock down drag out fight over all these and so much more to report about? I mean, these and other topics have been dragging out for, in Massey's case alone, over a year - effectively unanswered until now.

Where the hell is the GOP, especially the administration and White House? It is way past the time that somebody should have donned some brass knuckles and gone after all these frauds. Did anyone else hear "Dingy Harry's" verbal litany of charges, including Cheney's leaking of classified material yesterday? I mean how tough is it to point out that to date, no one, in particular the special prosecutor, has found that to be the case?

The coordinated response to the charges? Deafening silence. The longer this goes on, the tougher it will be to dig out of the hole the Dems are gleefully being allowed to fabricate.
