Discuss the results of the Virginia election as results come in. The governor's race is especially important, but there are also races for Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General. Also, there are significant House of Delegates races

These days, you can't even believe the "Official Results."
*I* don't say that .. I resent it's always being the fall back position. They've said the same thing about Earley
Who nominated this candidate though? Who supported him? Who voted for him?
More significantly, who did not support him, and who did not vote for him?
If our candidate loses, it's as much our fault as his.
You're right. Kilgore ran a lousy campaign. Bolling and McDonnell are both winning in VA beach by about 6000 votes... Kilgore's up by less than 200. I'd love to be able to pull those damned death penalty ads back.
I miss you guys, too. I hope all is well with you and the Chapter. You all are very busy.
I agree that the campaign wasn't good but don't think that Kilgore himself was a bad candidate or he wouldn't have been the only R to win statewide in '01 .. he was not well served in this campaign. My very R-leaning son was so aggrevated by his tv ads that he wanted to vote for his opponent, whoever it was ! (I made sure he didn't get to the polls today)
VA has just elected a Parris Glendenning type Gov
No it's not. Kilgore started with about a 10 point lead in the polls and then steadily pissed it away. Bolling and McDonnell will both win tonight. It's Kilgore' s fault that he couldn't capture those voters.
WT Bolling is the new Lt. Governor, I guess. Is he one of the Bollings who's descended from the Indian Princess, Pocahontas?
I think the next several years are going to be more tumultuous than the last several years, at least economically. Kaine has his job cut out for him, and if he fails, he and his party will go down with the ship.
If Bolling and McDonnell win, it will only be by a whisker.
The Republicans can blockade him just like they did Warner for the most part. We will have four more years of gridlock in Richmond. But the BRAC will bring lots of defense workers into VA and MD who are typically GOP voters and this may overcome this obstacle.
Maybe, but Kilgore lost by at least 5%.
I have to agree with you here. I didn't nominate him in the primary election because I didn't vote. I did vote for him. I did not avidly support him but then it's up to the candidate to inspire support which he did not do.
McDonnell's only up by .24% with 10% of the votes remaining to be tabulated.
What it showed is that the Dems came out to vote for their guy, and did not care so much about the other races. Only 39% voted, though. Where were the Republicans?
Oh, yes, and when the Governor orders taxpayer-funded facilities for illegal alien workers built in every town.
"But the BRAC will bring lots of defense workers into VA and MD who are typically GOP voters and this may overcome this obstacle."
I wouldn't count on BRAC changing anything. It will shift some VA jobs to MD, but mainly will bring 4000+ jobs from liberal NJ to liberal MD. (Monmouth to Aberdeen)
I figured that might be the case. You're right, the runoff election is unique to Louisiana.
