I fully agree. Kaine hid behind his Catholic teachings on the death penalty, Kilgore should have called him out on abortion.

Well, all we can hope for is that "Lez" Byrne is defeated and McDonnell holds the lead as AG. The AG might be our only defense against a flood of Kaine's beloved illegal immigrants.

Ralph, please don't mock us. More taxes are coming because of our new Governor.

PS. Is it snowing there yet? We miss you.

Don't worry about it.
Kilgore was a bad candidate and Kaine was slippery and slick. Plus Kaine was seen as the heir to the governor. He's a Democrat replacing a Democrat. No big deal there.

The governor--Mark Warner--is a Democrap. John Warner is a self-important blow hard that is a lukewarm Republican. Kilgore is/was a poor candidate.

I don't know what Catholic teachings kaine was hiding behind, I was raised Catholic, and the death penalty is an entirely different issue than abortion in the teachings.

Kilgore goofed in how he went after Kaine on the death penalty, but I think he was right to go that way.

Kaine is, as I said, just another Corporatist. That's a fancy euphemism for Nazi thug ~ just like Governor Warner before him.

The people in South Side and down in the Islamo-fascist precincts in Arlington/Alexandria seem to prefer that type.

A continuing stream of these guys and Virginia will be back right where it was in the days of Massive Resistance.

That's my point. Kaine defended himself against Kilgore's attacks on his death penalty stand because of his 'faith'. Kilgore should then have pointed out that Kaine is a pro-abort...what about his 'faith', then? I'm a serious Catholic, pretty well plugged into the Church in VA Beach and I know for a fact that the death penalty ads hurt Kilgore with Catholics. If Kilgore had made the pro-life point he could have stopped the bleeding there but he never did.

"Kilgore is/was a poor candidate"

why do we always say a Republican who loses is/was a bad candidate?

Kilgore was the ONLY Republican who won statewide in '01, so he can't be that bad a candidate. AND, it turned out Mark Warner (for some unknown reason) is exceedingly popular in the Commonwealth and carried Kaine across the finish line.

I want to puke. If this is the start of a trend toward the RATS, I question whether this country deserves to survive.

A little dramatic, don't you think?. Calling the country's worthiness of survival is a little over the top!

I wonder how they figure Kaine the winner, when Kilgore has been slowly chipping away at Kaine's lead. The margin is slowly closing.

"why do we always say a Republican who loses is/was a bad candidate? "

You may always say that but I don't. My point deals only with Kilgore. He was a bad candidate, or perhaps I should have said campaigner. He was totally underwhelming.

If the top vote getter has less than 50%, will there be a runoff?

Not sure what happens, it's possible there would be a runoff.

There is no runoff- the top vote getter wins- end of story. VA isn't Louisiana.

I say he was a bad candidate based on observation (please read my earlier post). Also, the guy that ran against Warner 4 years ago also ran a bad campaign. I expected Kilgore to lose this election just by observing his TV advertisements and what I heard on the radio. Despite his poor debating skills I believe he could have won this election if he had chosen better people to run his campaign but then that was his mistake.

With 88% reporting, Kaine leads by 5%. It's over.
