Students Wear KKK Outfits At Halloween Dance, Community Concerned
Channel Cincinnati ^ | Today | Deborah Haas, Mark Sickmiller

Posted on 11/08/2005 12:58:38 PM PST by day10

A dozen Tri-state high school students made quite a scene at the school halloween dance when they put on Ku Klux Klan outfits.

Students and administrators in Rising Sun, Indiana, say they're upset it happened and shocked the students would do it.

The principal made the students take off the outfits right away, but the damage was done.

9News learned the students were told they have to go through sensitivity training or risk suspension.

People in the community are also being asked to reach out to each other.

"I think you're surprised if one person shows up [in KKK garb], but sometimes good people, whether they're adults or kids, do things that aren't the best and make bad decisions and that's what we had. We had about 12 individuals make a very bad decision," said Superintendent Steve Patz.

The superintendent says neither he, nor any administrators, heard rumblings this might happen.

The students, all boys, came to the dance wearing sheets, dressed as ghosts and pulled out hoods a little later.

Students didn't want to talk on camera, but said they were surprised -- even offended.

The students involved will do civil rights research and write papers and the staff will work to improve the way the school teaches issues of tolerance and sensitivity.

The superintendent knows that everyone knows what happened in the small town and everyone knows who's involved. That's why he wants the community to help with the solution.

"I think it gets back to the education we need to do not only as a school but as a community about why these things are unacceptable," said Patz.

Church leaders are being asked to use their influence.

"As a pastor, I care about all the people in this community, regardless of race, and we want to be able to reach out to bring some understanding of what happened and probably some education needs to take place," said Dan Hunt of Bethel Unity Baptist Church.

There was one African-American girl at the dance, 9News learned.

Although the superintendent says he's under the impression the act wasn't done maliciously, it doesn't matter.

He says this kind of action regarding race, religion, cultures -- just can't happen.

I don't think SHE wants it, as much as everyone around her does.

I think your right. I also think she realizes she isn't conservative enough to sway the base in the primaries.

I don't know about that. I think she may be, especially since she is very PRO-2A and the rest would follow. But I think she realizes what a campaign could do to her both personally and professionally. My personal prediction is that she will replace Tagliabue as commish of the NFL.

She is conservative enough for you?

Well, very few people on the planet are conservative enough for me. But, I have no doubt she would govern from the Right and do a fine job.

But lets not kid ourself here, they wouldn't be the only ones showing what kind of people they really are.

If you mean that some on the Right would condemn her for being black, I am certain you are wrong. I cannot imagine, in the 21st Century conservative movement, that such attitudes make up more than a microscopic and irrelevant segment.

More likely, the burgeoning PC claptrappers would disallow any criticism of her at all, because all criticism would be a manifestation of racism, replete with "code words" and "unspoken attitudes."

I am talking about closet racists. The kind that post here for a long time and you think they are outstanding upright individuals. Then one day they show their true colors here or on some other forum. I don't think any of them would have the guts to do it public.

Being pro second amendment would help her a lot. The problem is that she is pro-choice. That will make any run tougher for her.

Oh, geesh. Not them again.

It's like the freaking Red Scare around here some days.

And yet White Republican Rep. Stacy Campfield of Tennessee is barred from joining his state's black caucus.

"Good Racism" vs. "Bad Racism" again...?

As a simple person, I was always taught that there was no "Good Racism", but I am slowly learning.

That's not what she said BTW. She said it shouldn't be up to the federal government but to the states to decide. Her position is more Libertarian than liberal in that arena.

Do you refuse to believe people have been banned here for making racist statements? I have seen it happen many times. I remember telling the mods about one guy myself.

Ok I will take your word for it. I guess we will have to wait and see what she does. As of now, any talk of her running is premature till she steps down from her current job.

No those on the left would condemn her for not being black enough. Whatever that means.

I don't refuse to believe anything. I know some racists were banned for spewing their bilge around here.

But, most threads that deal with racism take an Orwellian turn, where ultra-paranoids condemn others for being "closet racists" for nothing more than pointing out the MSM's hypocrisy concerning issues of race.

Of, course, they don't have the stones to come out and say "you are a racist and here is why...."

They use innuendo and false premises. This thread is a prime example.

If anyone is ultra-paranoid it is you. Your trying your hardest to make a issue out of thin air. I was only pointing out that has happened in the past. People have posted here for some time then all of the suddenly they fall off the deep end and start spewing racists garbage. I wasn't calling you or anyone here racists. So get over it.

Me, Paranoid? And then you think that I am talking about you?
Pot, meet kettle.

I was not referring to you. You are not the poster who is inferring people are racists. You are not the one who inferred I was a closet racist.

If you cannot see what I am talking about, you are blind. It happens on virtually every thread that touches on race.

Kinda brings a new meaning to "boys in the hood."

Unfortunately, it's not so new afterall.

I'm not going to supply a direct link, let alone post the images. Just scan the page and you'll find a couple images that will turn your stomach. Amazing what you can buy online these days. :(

" I dont condone such costumes. Cartman is the only who can pull this off."

It was the teachers fault. She was making a ghost costume.
