"Wouldn't McCain make a great V.P on a ticket with Colin Powell?"
Aaaaaghhh!
For me, a Reagan libertarian, it is a dream ticket...I have nothing against W, the decent man; but I have nothing but contempt for W, Cheney and their administration. Like his old man, who couldn't follow the Napoleanic axiom (when you set out to take Vienna, TAKE Vienna) in the 1st Gulf conflict, W is a screw up when it comes to directing war. He was warned repeatedly by people like McCain, and retired flag officers who knew how to win war, that the troop levels he, Dick and Rummy envisioned, were far too low to do the job correctly--and we have now more than 2,000 deaths to show for their mistake. I truly believe that the 250,000 more boots on the ground in the intital stages of war would have
1. prevented looting,
2. Led to the quicker capture of Saddam and deaths of his two sons;
3. Sealed the borders of Syria and other terrorist hosting nations (something that STILL isn't done);
4. Led to the capture of Al Zarkari and other Al Qieda groups.
5. Quickened the buildup of a strong Iraqi army that was faithful to an Iraqi constitution and,
6. Would quite probably, led to intelligence of the whereabouts of Osama Bin Laden...
The media stole the term from the old Westerns and dubbed McCain a "Maverick" to appeal to his ego. The term is belittled by McCain receiving it, imo, though can't fight his receival of it at this point.
Why? Well, McCain constantly drives a knife in the back of Republicans. He undermines conservatism. Rather than presenting this as a betrayal (which it is), they (the MSM) stroke his ego to encourage him to continue. They've got McCain believing he's essential to the survival of this Great Nation, without him the radical right-wing would lead us to the abyss.
Maverick has come to mean any Republican that strays from the Party towards the Dems/Libs favored positions, receiving favorable MSM coverage as payback. McCain is the King, in this respect, and I hold the Republicans alowance of him to reach this "height" unchallenged responsible for little mini McCain's wanting to get in on the action such as Lindsey, DeWine, Hagel, Murkowski, etcc...
Gee John--we would have never gussed you got angry in 2000 and have run interference for the democrRATS ever since!
I think you'd be pleasantly surprised in the case of Giuliani.
...such as listening to his Inner Child Democrat waaaaaaaaaaaay too much.
"Here, the Right Rev. George W. Bush solicits and 'Amen' from the crowd after healing this soul from demonic possession. Unfortunately, the cleansing lasts only until the next senate vote."
"The man has a well deserved case of PTSD, which alone should disqualify him for presidential service."
You say "well deserved?"
It is one thing to not vote for the man.
It is entirely another to demean his service, or six years as a POW.
When I see that kind of crap, it is FR at its worst.
Given force levels and commitments at the time, just where do you propose that we would have been able to put 400,000 troops on the ground?
Mispoke: "just where do you propose that we would have been able find the troops to put 400,000 troops on the ground"
Exactly, "maverick" acting against conservative causes.
ACU rating 2004 - 72
2003 - 75
Gets a C, not good enough.
Maybe he should try arrogance management!
my wife often said, "I like him, but I wonder how stable he will be under the constant pressure of the job. Prisoner of war and torture creates many things we can't imagine." Long than DUH but similar in substance.
If you think I'm making light of his PTSD you can go and screw yourself. The 'well deserved' status of his PTSD is his only saving grace. When I see your type of judgemental crap, I see FReepers at their worst!
Draft?...and the draftees would have been done with their service by now.
"Draft?...and the draftees would have been done with their service by now."
Impractical on too many levels
A. Would have played right into the hands of the anti war crowd
B. Putting the system in place would have taken time that was not available.
C. Training surge operations still take time. The level of training would not have been even close to present training levels.
D. By putting that many poorly trained troops on the ground you are creating a target rich environment that would result in even more deaths.
Throwing bodies at a problem is often as successful as throwing money at it
"So now a guy who admits he has emotional problems, and particularly anger problems, wants us to make him President and put him in charge of the nuclear launch codes? I always want a President who I believe has the fortitude to do what is necessary but I don't want one who might do something stupid in a pique of anger."
Ditto that! McQueeg scares the bejeebers out of me! I'm just surprised he hasn't gone postal in public before this!
...glad your philosophy wasn't at work at like Anzio, Omaha Beach, Iwo Jima, Tarawa, Pusan and Hue City.
I am not against the draft-I don't feel it is the soluiton to the problem we are discussing
