You are referring to ancient history in countries that once had national identities. These countries have systematically denigrated and abandoned their traditions, cultures, and religions. They no longer know who they are, so it is harder for demagogues to reach and inflame them. And Hitler, Franco, Mussolini and Napoleon did not suddenly spring to life; they were the product of long political struggles - struggles that today at least appear to be over. I have yet to hear the name "Le Pen" in all of this (is he dead?).

Except that the French have willfully and intentionally been denigrating, destroying, ridiculing and abandoning their culture, tradition, history and religion for the past 25 years - more than an entire generation. I hope the French "majority" will rise up - but I truly wonder if it even exists anymore. The change in that country since I first started going there in the early 1980s is shocking.

Ooo...you may be right.

But you forgot...they're also going to say their "fathers smelt of elderberry," then taunt a second time (if needed).

Okay, and by implication, you're trying to say since it happened in LA that the French are taking the prudent course?

Just that it's not only the French who resist rushing in with guns blazing. I'm not sure what is prudent for France. Actually I think the immigrants in France have more justification than the LA or NO rioters for what they are doing and the French are feeling guilty.

The intensity of this violence is on the way down," National Police Chief Michel Gaudin said, citing fewer attacks on public buildings and fewer direct clashes between youths and police.

Yep, all the cars have been burned so you might say the riots burrned themselves out!!

"The army has not been called in"

I guess they're not picking up the phone. "You have reached the French Army. I'm sorry but we're not able to take your call right now. Please leave a message at the beep and we will get back with you when it suits us, au revoir"

Are we sure that the islamo-youth doing the automobile burning are being guided by islamo-faschists? It could be that the auto makers are behind it to increase sales in a bad market..............

THE BATTLE OF ALGIERS is quite possibly the most evil film ever made. Very well done, documentary style pro-terrorist madness. But all people who oppose terrorism should see it.

I hope the French finally wake up and become the tough people they were a hundred years or more ago. I don't care if these yoots are third gen or not. Lead poisoning and expulsion should be their fate.

Not hard to find. Ten or twelve years ago on biz in Paris my colleagues and I were warned to not stay late on the Champs Elysees as it became the haunt of "Algerian delinquents".
