I have a SIGARMS P239 .357 SIG for concealed carry and inside-the-home defense, but I feel I need a good rifle for neighborhood defense outside -- just in case somebody wants to torch some cars. I'd love an M1 Garand -- just to hear the ka-ching when the clip ejects -- but it's too expensive. The Ruger Mini Thirty looks interesting. What are your suggestions?
Yes. Assuming that it is a Winchester in the 32 Special caliber, it is (if in good condition) a "collector's item".
Do a google search on winchester 32 and you will come up with a great deal of info.
You could be an idiot , but just in case you're borderline let me explain something . I was a member of the 75th rangers ,we were taught how to survive in the most adverse of conditions , so I am a SURVIVER . A weapon is ones insurance against the worst kind of adverse condition ( anarchy ) , You know like what is going on in France right now . Just like my auto insurance I hope I never have to use my weapons to defend my family and or property . Yor're WRONG < WRONG <> Wrong .
Fine...I assume that is why our fine young men trained as snipers never use a scope and rely on iron......doh!
Iron sights are fine for close-range....as far as light acquisition, spend the dollars required for a low-light or night scope...
If I am facing a hostile opponent and he has a scope....I guess my iron sights will even the playing field...

What makes you think the "deadbeat" knew it was a repo man and not a common thief?
Thank you for your service, by the way.
Hi Points are not reliable. The firing pin on my carbine broke after 700 rounds. I also have one of their handguns. They are pure junk. Save your money and buy something better.
Actually that is perfectly legal in Texas.
Thanks for adding to the info regarding the Hi-points. I will have to say they don't instill much confidence just from looking at them.
Of course a single incident doesn't mean a whole lot. This mornig my garbage man hauled of my trash which included a snap-on socket which cracked. I left it in my pickup for a couple of years thinking I would run across the truck but finally just tossed it.
There is a reason that they offer a lifetime warranty on their products. They need to. What they sell will break in much shorter order than a quality firearm will. Don't trust your life to a Hi-Point. Buy an SKS they cost the same and are light years ahead in the quality department.
I do collection work. Trust me, this deadbeat knew full well what was going on. Debtors get notice of repossession before the actual repossession.
There is no excuse for this nonsense. So, I as a debt collector, can rightfully be shot by a deadbeat because he thinks I am stealing his money, when in actually he has stolen someone else's by not paying his/her debt obligations?
Until that car is paid off in full, it belongs to the financing company, not the individual.
I did not know that. In that case I see your point and agree.
I think you mistook her sincerity for sarcasm.
The financing company does not own the vehicle. They have a lien which gives them an interest in the property. They can use that lien to gain ownership if the debtor does not pay off the loan.
If the debtor pays it off, the creditor loses any rights to the vehicle.
Failure to pay off a debt is not stealing. That is why we do not have debtors prisons in the U.S.
Yeah ok, don't pay your property taxes and see what happens, don't pay your home loan and see what happens. You only think you own these things, you don't. You feel good about saying you do, but think about it, don't pay your property taxes and what happens?
As far as stealing, please!!!!!!!!! What is the difference between a person who takes clothes out of a store without paying for it and a person who does not pay their car loan?
I deal with deadbeats every day, most are just bums who are looking for any loophole or excuse not to pay for the goods or services rendered on their behalf.
And before you jump on me, don't for a minute think you are not paying for the acts of these people in many other ways.
As far as your statement of self defense is concerned, Texas is not like most places. In most places, not all, you can not defend property alone with deadly force.
If you think the creditor owns the vehicle until it is paid off, you will get a nasty surprise if you try to steal it (and that is the correct terminology) from someone who is not delinquent in their payments.
You will find yourself in jail for theft.
So much for your ownership.

Oh! excuse me, I believe I said that I respectfully disagreed with you. My mistake. Clearly, you are rude as well as misguided and not deserving of respect. I would have expected more from a Texan.
Let me help you out here. The poster is looking for a weapon for INEXPENSIVE home defense. That implies close range and cheap. Your suggestion offers neither.
A sniper rifle with a night-vision scope, such as you describe is great for its intended purpose and would be fine if the poster had stated that he had lots of money to burn and was interested in becoming an assassin.
Under his set of circumstances, it's highly unlikely that he would have much need for five-hundred to three thousand yard shots such as our fine young men, trained as snipers might be called on to make. His likely target would be less than fifty to a hundred feet away and rarely over a block away.
Furthermore, the scope that you describe could cost more than is needed for an good rifle.
I do know for a fact that if I had iron sights and was facing the most determined and hostile opponent, day or night, and he was equipped with the best of scopes and he was in front of my house, he would be a dead man. Iron sights would more than level the playing field.
Some people that just can't shoot very well think that a scope will always help them. It's just not so. Iron sights are cheap, dependable, and as you stated, fine for close range, which is just what this Freeper is looking for. I will go a step further and say that iron sights are better for close range and mixed lighting conditions.
What are you going to do with a scope equipped rifle if armed people were running towards you at 25 feet? Shoot from the hip? You would have to because you ain't gonna find them in your scope.
. . . doh!
First of all, I will admit that a scope is capable of better accuracy at just about any range (OK, I know a range of 3 feet could be better handled with iron sights). That is why most of my rifles have scopes on them. The difference is not nearly as great as most people think tho. Oddly enough, the difference becomes less at extremely long ranges than at closer ones. I don't completely understand why this is so but have done enough long range shooting to know it is so.
The guy, from Finland who holds the all time record for sniper kills used a rifle with iron sights. Many of his shots were at long range.
